Ok, I know much more about computer hardware than I do network settings and performance. Truth be told, I'm a total newb when it comes to setting up and optimizing a network connection.
I opted for the 6205 to push better speeds, and I'm wondering if this sounds about right.
I use an Apple Airport Extreme router, if anyone is familiar, and I made sure the 6205 is set to "prefer" the 5.2hz band.
I'm about 30 feet away from my router, through a couple walls, and speedtest.net reports a 13 mbps connection. My download speeds are around 1.8-2.0 MB per second.
Does this sound about right? Should it be higher?

well, 13 mbps and 1.8 MBps do correlate to a degree...
Anyhow, is it any different if you plug it in to your router with an ethernet cable (and disable the WiFi)? If it isn't, then your internet connection is the bottleneck. If it is, then your wireless setup is the bottleneck.
EDIT: to clarify: mbps = mega bits per second; MBps = mega bytes per second.
8 bits in one byte (in the most basic sense). -

I'm going to test that. I just realized the R2 sitting right next to the router on a Dell Half Mini (basic) wireless card is getting the same exact speed.
I'm pretty certain my internet connection is rated for 80mbps.
Anything I can do to try and figure this out? -
plug...in...RJ-45...disable...wifi!!!
seriously, try a wired test, and if the results are consistant, then you need to make a call to your ISP for scamming you

8mbps is not good. I can get between 30-40Mbps with the 2.4ghz n, and higher with 5.2ghz.
Get the "inssider" tool for your laptop that lets you see your available connections, and your 'db' level.
Be aware that 5.2ghz does not have as good a range as 2.4ghz, and it does not penetrate walls as well. -
he's using speedtest.net, not a local network file transfer, AFAIK.
6205 connection question...
