Well, the 900p is more refined. Objects are less big. You have more real estate on your desktop.

If there's any upgrade you can get on the m14x, the 900p screen is the most important.

As dragonx254 said, with the 900p, you'll have more space but with the disadvantage of have a smaller text but you can always magnify the screen in the Control Panel. As for gameplay, you can always switch back to the 720p if you get the 900p while if you get the 720p there is no way you can do that. This is why more people here suggest to spend few hundred to upgrade the screen to 900p, it is better and during game you have more screen options.

However larger screen also mean slower performance, but it can always be eliminate by either tweak your game setting, OC your GPU, or lower the screen resolution. But games I played so far such as BF3, Crysis 2, and Skyrim etc... I dont seem to have any problem with it though, except for some heat issues, the game run fine at 900p, and all of the game I play are running at 900p with most of them are all had the setting tweaked.

personally I wouldnt touch a m14x with the 720p display. From what I have read its of poor quality.

It's a good buy. If you're contemplating getting, its not really necessary though. But try to get it in a component bundle, its cheaper for everything that way.

900p is a must on this device. 720p looks good on sub 13inch screen but anything bigger that demands a higher res because you can see the jaggedness in textures and fonts...(atleast i do)

plus you have more screen estate to work on. on 720p, screen is like :O this big... big taskbar, big cursor\, big everything.

i once had the display panel of alienware changed .and those stupid folks put in the standard 720p display. Man i could see it right through the booting screen. everything was so big and felt unnatural. but that might be the case due to being habitual of 900p display.

if you have trouble getting smaller fonts, or just play games at 720 p all the time and dont really care for big jagged fonts and edges, go for it. otherwise 900p is the only option . my personal advice would be to go with 900p. Its my first priority to tell people to put 900p as the first requirement on their list when about to purchase an alienware m14x.

If you play a lot, especially newer games, I think 720p is a good choice.
Less heat, more performance, and of course you can play native res with no compromises at all. ;)
    We're talking about a 14" after all...

If you get the 900p version, you can always change the resolution to 720p everytime, that's a double advantage there, 720p when in game and 900p when no game.
