    Hi Guys,

I got a quote from Dell Ireland yesterday. I went to order it today and was told that the 750GB HDD is now end of life and been replaced with a 1TB HDD @ 5400rpm instead. Alternatively the base system has a 500GB Hybrid drive.
Has any one else experienced this?

Also, I was told that the 8GB RAM is end of life as well. The 2 options are now 6GB @ 1600mhz or 16GB @ 1600mhz both DDR3L

Also, there's a new Graphics card on alienware.ie and also included in the new quote I received which is the
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 750M with 2GB GDDR5

Does anyone have any information on this GPU? I can't find any info. It's not even list on nVidia's website so I'm really confused.

    Thanks,
    Sch3cter

PS These are the 3 GPU offers on alienware.ie

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M with 2GB GDDR5 [add € 199.99 or €11/month-1]
    Dell Recommended
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M with 1GB GDDR5 [Included in Price]
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 750M with 2GB GDDR5 [add € 125.00 or €7/month-1]

I wouldn't call it end of life. I think they basically found out what sells and what doesn't and adjusted the specs accordingly. They did it will all the alienwares at one point (for example not offering lowest resolution in medium choice only the higher).

It's a bit of a disappointment because by the looks of it you can't get a i7 with a 1366x768 screen by the looks of it...I think Dell just streamlined it a little and found which prodcuts cell the most.

With new configurations the base price was reduced a lot. I think I remember having only 8 GB or 16 GB choice when I was making mine:S

Interesting. Looks like you can't get the i7 with a 765M, at least on their website.

This could be what's happening, they could be referring to EOL as a configuration. Also it could be due to availability.

Yes agreed...Ram especially has nearly doubled in price...which could be a big contributor.

I was curious about this as well, here is what I was told as they sent me a chat log afterwards:

"I noticed that the Alienware 14 used to have an option to order with a 256 GB msata SSD and now that is no longer an option on any of the 6 configurations. Will this be coming back eventually?"

01/26/2014 02:37:35PM Agent (Maria D): "There are some options for configurations that will be out of stock so they are not offered to avoid lead time and delay to the orders"

01/26/2014 02:37:58PM Agent (Maria D): "But there will be a possibility that it will be coming back as an option but we would be unable to say the definite date it will be offered again"

.. so who knows. I really want the faster hard drive at 7200 rpm and would just buy my own mSATA and install if not available but as of now I would have to get slower hard drive :-(

The 80 GB you see there are meaning for caching, Caching (with hard drives) means when the firmware decides which programs or files take up most of your usage and it slowly learns which are used a lot and loads them (or partially) onto the 80 GB SSD in order to speed up load. the 80 GB msata also massively improves windows boot times.

You can always use the 80 GB for windows by disabling the caching but I find that unless you know what your doing or if you have an SSD I do not see this as a viable option. I also think it's more reliable to use the HDD + msata setup :)

So a quick definition, caching improves the load of your OS and applications. :)
