    Advice on fitting an SSD?

    When i get my M14 , you guys are fitting ssd drives right? so what are you doing ?, are you keeping the original HDD and removing the dvd drive for space for the ssd , or are you binning the hdd and just using an ssd?

    thanks also having read through the sata 3 ssd thread , i couldnt make out yet if the m14x uses sata 3 ?

    My advice,

    Swap the HDD for the SSD. (Yes in the same spot)

    You want windows to boot off the SSD so you can get the increased speed in read/write.

    Then you can swap the optical disc bay for an optical HDD bay (Guide in my signature) for the additional storage.

    There would be no point in leaving the HDD in it's spot and putting the SSD in the optical HDD bay. You wouldn't benefit from any increase if the SSD is not the primary drive with the windows OS on it.

    ok i want to keep my optical as well so i will swap my primary hd for the ssd and get an external to keep all my steam games backed up on then install them to the ssd as and when needed thanks

    not sure why you need optical drive on the go + external hdd
    personally I think the better option is internal secondary hdd + external optical when needed. A usb2.0 dvd drive is dirt cheap these days
