So finally after the 3rd visit the Dell rep put the correct screen on my laptop...
as chronicled on this thread : http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/583513-dust-behind-screen.html
So now after finally making sure the screen is free of dust / dead pixels I noticed that the bottom right of my laptop is not fully flushed to it.

I tried pushing it against it, but it won't stay closer to the plastic. I also uploaded a video that shows the sound difference when I tap on it. The left side has a deeper more "thunk" sound.

This is just very upsetting cause how many times will I have to interact with these damn dell reps, and people on the phone. It's just a damn chore for something that costs quite a bit for the specialty brand. I wonder at what point all these extra parts and paying for the technician coming in would outweigh just making me a damn new laptop.

I'm sorry but it looks fine.... someone is being a little over picky....... i didn't see the video but the pictures look fine I'm not on my m14x atm but i could live with that.....
i work for a computer company and I hate dealing with such a small minuscule issue that is probably within specification. -
i'd say you have a right to be pissed off. I'm avoiding dell techs at all cost. mine has been chipped on the left side and the screen has a scratch on it (very annoying).
-
I see what you are talking about. I don't think he put it back entirely right. Maybe a screw is not tight or a clip is in the way or something. (it should probably be flush on both sides - and neither side is fully flush, but the right side is worse).
When you pay $1500 for a machine you kinda want it to fit together well. -
I'll take another look at the video, but it appears to be fine. None of the units are prefectly flush.
Thanks,
Gabe -
This is kinda why I went with square trade for my warranty, with Dell it's so random who you get as a tech.
-
Squaresoft? Squaresoft is a game developer I believe.
Thanks,
Gabe -
Gah Square Trade! thanks lol end of the day at work don't think I'll make it!
-
There's also the issue when the tech came the first time, he couldn't find a spot to put one of the screws in, so he just took it with him. I was alarmed that he didn't even want tell me or anything. I guess I should have said something there
-
LOL! What a bad tech... dude I opened this laptop more than 5 times and never missed a single screw maybe they should hire me
-
ya.... but you need your A+ cert (its pretty jokes) but can be a tad expensive, get your Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and they may hire you lol.
I hate taking apart laptops but realistically if you are remotely good at taking apart legos, you can properly manage to take this unit apart. -
Kinda off topic but I actually have my MCSE and I'm A+ cert, after college the only job I could get was at a paint store lol. Now I own my own graphic design business and just fix friends computers but it's still pretty sad lol.
-
So... I decided maybe ill deal with the laptop, but I noticed my new screen has scratches on the red exterior...., and my fan makes noticeable clicks when starting now. Wasn't present before.
-
I've had 4 tech visits and the last one destroyed the machine and it will not even power on. You were lucky in comparison.
-
Ya... My buddy is in the same situation. Kinda sad I am sorta lucky I guess I have my Mac Certified Apple Technician (small market but it works), Ive been meaning to get my A+ cert and MCSE but they are damn expensive and seeing that my buddy has not started his career with those certs ill shy away for a while.
After 3 visits by Dell tech, I am not satisified with the reassembly
