I've had my alienware 14 for about a month now. I've noticed if I turn the machine off, and leave it plugged in for a few hours, I can't turn it back on unless I unplug the power cord. Pushing the power button does nothing. It only does this if left plugged in and turned off for longer than maybe 30 minutes. Turning it off for a few minutes, then back on works normally. A tech has been scheduled to replace my power adapter.
I was just curious, has anyone else had this problem? Or know what the problem could be?

Had mine for 3 days now, I do know what you mean - however mine eventually powers on after 3 presses.
This morning I booted and things started running slow, for eg I click Chrome shortcut and it took around 5 seconds for it to open.
The laptop is making this weird buzzing noise, not from the speakers.
I plugged the laptop into my monitor via HDMI and the lag plus buzzing noise disappears.
I then unplugged the HDMI and the lag did not return, however the buzzing noise re-appeared.
Could this be a power supply issue? Maybe battery is being overcharged or there's left over static or something? Or not earthed properly maybe.... not sure. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
sounds strange. I would go ahead with getting the power adapter replaced and see if that fixes the problem, you could try some different outlets though and see if that helps any as well.

I've just had my entire motherboard + power adapter replaced by a technician.
Seems to be charging now and turning on while charging. However my top speakers (closer to the hinge) are not working anymore.
Getting that replaced next week... -
I'd be willing to bet that the tech didn't connect your speakers after replacing the motherboard...

So we took it apart again, but the cables were all well connected... we even tried re-connecting.
I think that power issue has propagated into the speakers too... replacement next week incoming. -

Did you ever figure out what was causing this? Because I too am having this same problem. I did notice if I unplug the charger from my surge protector or unplug the cord from the brick it still won't boot unless I unplug the the entire charger from the computer. I used another HP computer on the same surge protector and never had the problem. If you have figured out anything please let me know.

A new motherboard + power adapter swap fixed the problem for me FYI.
Get a technician to come replace it for you - no point trying to tolerate a broken machine while your warranty is ticking away!
I'm actually in the process of complaining to Alienware, mainly because after replacing my motherboard (TWICE!), speakers and power adaptor, there are still issues with sound not working.
At this point I've been wasting a month of warranty with a non-functioning machine, which I no longer have much confidence for.
Funny thing is, I tried to diagnose the problem myself - turns out *part* of the problem was the technician ripped the white flat cable (with a purple flap) which connects the speakers to motherboard (since I've had the laptop taken apart so many times for service.)
I tried explaining this cable to Alienware, but twice now they've sent a motherboard (which doesn't have that cable) AND a new palm rest (which also doesn't have that cable)...
I'm just at a state of despair lol.reborn2003 likes this. -
Wow, motherboard issues on a computer that I have only used for three weeks sounds so bad. ._. Makes me not want to purchase another Alienware/Dell computer anytime soon. Welp, I will have to give them a call and see what happens. Thanks for information, peeps. I wish you luck with your problems azelexx. But it seems like my dv4t-5100 is better than this computer power wise that is.

Update: It was a motherboard issue but too bad the tech they sent destroyed like almost every ribbon connector on the new board and tried to fix them with electrical tape. He also blamed his lack of knowledge and breaking of connectors on Alienware for using weird connectors in the notebook. He then booted the notebook and got a keyboard error and wondered why the keyboard did not work (Everything worked fine minus booting while plugged in) and then he proceeded to take it apart again and killed it completely. I had to have it sent in for repair because of him and now that I have received the notebook back the light on the left has a gradient with green (with any colour minus blue, green, and red) and the USB on the left are so loose as well. I also don’t think he knew what he was doing because he tried to force the old motherboard out and then realized he needed to remove the screen and thanks to the force he was using to pry it out he bent some of the exhaust.
Also, should a tech be telling me like every five minutes that I should just send it back to DELL? I almost felt like he did not want to work on my computer so he broke it on purpose since he was saying that so much to me. He also came to my house sick and was practically coughing up his lungs and dripping boogers everywhere which in turn made me get sick a few days after service. It’s a good thing that they are going to replace my notebook or else I would be so pissed and never buy a DELL again. This was my first time using DELL’s/Alienware’s onsite repair and it was the worst experience ever had and this is also coming off a bad 6 time repair with HP.reborn2003 likes this.
