I want to upgrade my computer's ram. I currently have 8 GB, but it's no longer enough for me. I do not really do any intense ram work, but having steam, skype, kaspersky, utorrent, chrome open (with several tabs) and Notepad++/compilers....it does take a toll on the system's stability.
I did have page pooling set to low, which also increased it's instability (set 500-1500 to save SSD space).
Anyways what set me alarms off is that I tried to put a 48 GB torrent to download, and it kept freezing my computer to the point where everything would hang, and even though cpu and ram would go down...it would need a hard shut down to be closed. After several restarts and freezes, the computer eventually stabilized after I set page pooling to 10,000 - 12,000 sizes. (I had it to 500 - 12,000 before that but it still made no difference until I put the minimum to 10,000).
I also think that the torrent is very volitile until it gets settled in, so it might have been the case...I mean it's just a theory. Now it's downloading fine, and my ram seems to be low even with everything opened.

Anyways, I'd like to increase the ram in hopes that everything would run faster, and i would again be able to reduce the page pooling file for SSD space purposes.
Any thoughts?
What's compatible? Is it worht getting 2133 mhz? I think it's currently running at 1600 mhz.
P.S
I already ran HD disk cheks for everything, including intel's built-in and it all came out healthyin case people wanted to say it was hdd.

I'd get at least 1600mhz if not 1866mhz. I think you might run into issues with 2133mhz.

You're looking at spending at least $200. My recommendation: Amazon.com: HyperX 16GB Kit 1866MHz DDR3 PC3-14900 Non-ECC CL11 1.35V Low Voltage SODIMM Notebook Memory DDR3 1866 KHX18LS11P1K2/16: Computers & Accessories If I remember correctly, this memory can be overclocked up to 2133MHz.

I'd go with the Corsair model because it has tighter timings, 10 vs 11, making it fast than the HyperX.

Negligibly, but yes, I suppose it is.

If for no other reason I would go with the Corsair because it is $40 cheaper.

Thanks for the responses guys.
I've been reading up on Ram lately, it's scary the prices we're paying now compared to before...I remember seeing 16 GBs for 80$...and not buying it hoping to see a drop about 1.5 years ago or so...now it's 200$!
It also seems like prices might not fall until DDR4 is introducedSo we will ahve to wait and see!
I did manage to figure out a lot of the problem was me having page file set very low. Now instead of saving as much space for my SSD I just choose stability over space
I was hoping to spend around 150$ max (not including tax:S)
