Alienware 14 Reball and upgrade gt 750m to gtx 765m

Hi as what my title states, I'd like to know if it's possible to reball my existing gt 750m and replace it with a gt 765m?

My alienware 14 is currently experiencing lines on the screen. I think my unit's gt 750m is going to fail soon and a reball will do the fix. While we're at it at reballing, why not replace the gpu chip into gtx 765m right?

You could get an alienware 14 765m motherboard for less than you would end up paying for the reball.

 

Reball does not work anyways. just a money grab.

It won't work as the 750m and 765m use different cores. The bga for a 765m is much larger than that of a 750m.

With that said, the maxwell 860m and 960m are actually compatible. Unfortunately no one knows how to build the franken vBIOS that your system would then require, and you'd have to be very lucky that one from a later system would be compatible.

I have the 14 with the 765m and I dont think it would be worth the money and effort to replace the motherboard just for a slightly better gpu.
My aw 14 has 16 gb ram, i upgraded to 256 gb msata ssd as there are two mpci slots so you dont need to remove your wireless card I also replaced the 2.5in hdd with a 512 gb ssd. The msata ssd holds the Windows OS and system files and the 2.5 ssd holds my game and media files and this really increased performance as far as booting and loading times. But most new games are really demanding and the only thing holding back performance is my gpu.
All I played was CSGO for the longest time so performance wasnt an issue but I got sick of mouse and keyboard. I started using my tv as a display and using a PS4 controller to play games like wildlands and dying light which run ok when im overclocking at lower resolutions.
Since its only a matter if time before game requirements are going to exceed the 765m performance I started doing research and I stumbled upon external pcie docks that connect to laptops via mpci slot. This allows you run an external GPU. Now this isnt really practical if you intend to travel alot with your laptop but I pretty much use my laptop as a desktop or gaming system, it stays connected to my tv for gaming and watching/ streaming music and videos.
Ill post some links below so you can see how this works. I think an external gpu is the best option next to just getting an entirely new laptop. But buying a new motherboard to upgrade from 750 to 765 isnt worth it, you would barely notice the performance improvement. But if you do go through with it then let us know hownit goes. I will post my exteral gpu setup when I start putting it together.

i saw these mb on ebay for less than 200$.
I think it s worth it.

I have a small Alienware 14 and it s beautifull.
Mine still seems brand new.
It s a shame to sell it for spare parts.

 

Your better off just keeping the current configuration and using the Wifi express port to power an eGPU and throw a 980 in there. You will of course only be at PCI-E X1, but its better then the 765 or the 750.

When you need to go mobile, unplug the cable, and move out. It is the best way to try to gain some sort of momentum moving forward.

By the way, I think all 10 series cards are not possible with A14 or M14x's with eGPUs
