    Hi All,

Please help me with my problem: having problem since few weeks - machine overheating and shutting down once a while, I try to update RAM on my laptop but for some reason it won't boot if i put more than 2GB - atm i have 1 x 2GB 1333 and its working both slots & system starts all fine - but when i add extra 2 or 4 GB nothing happens.. Even when i put only 1 x 4 GB in any slot same problem occurs - laptop won't boot... I'm out of ideas what's wrong.. Motherboard ? graphic card ?

I updated BIOS, re set battery, system is Windows 7 64bit, all RAMs are working on other laptops.

    M14x R1, service tag 6JPW2R1, BIOS ver A08
    Thank you very much.

Have you check the RAM if it is compatible with your M14x R1? Not sure about combining a 1333Mhz 2G Ram with a different one. Also are you using a DDR3 ram or a DDR3L ram?

About your overheating problems, is the fan working? Is the heatsink dirty or the airflow of the cooling obstructed?

    Hi,

As per Corsair online memory finder I tried 8 GB (2x4GB) DDR 1600 Mhz CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9, than my friend gave me his 2 x 2GB 1333 so i always used same specs RAM - laptop didn't work even with 1 x 4 GB but is working with 1 x 2 GB..

I have re pasted the processor, cleaned all dust airflow etc., the fan is clearly working you can hear it.

I noticed that the graphic card is not correctly showing in device manager and i can't run Geforce experience error: "you are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidai GPU"

Went to computer store today and they told me it's motherboard but want to be sure before i order as i don't trust them after my friend gave his laptop to fix and they swapped his i5 with i3 processor...

Thanks a lot for any help.

Go to BIOS and try resetting to default.
Sounds like you need to stay away from that business.

It might be the RAM, that RAM should be compatible. Did you pull it from a working system? I wouldn't blame the mobo if it does POST with the 1x 2GB completes de POST on both slots.

    Hi,
The 8 GB (2 x 4GB) is brand new, from the shop last week and is working on other laptop no probs.
Maybe is the DUAL not working on mobo hence it won't "read" more than 2 GB as single modules are fine... ?Thanks.

Try Crucial or Kingston Ram, never had much luck with Corsair personally.
