im playing on low and getting 30 fps barely. i am using the DEDICATED graphics card. i am also plugged in using high performance. Someone explain to me why i cant get more than 30 fps same thing happened with deus ex
-
try to overclock the video card perhaps will do some help.also install the latest beta driver which says can improve performance in bf3.and use game booster.
-
I would also try this. Right click desktop > nVidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Select BF3.exe (or whatever the launcher is) > Select High-Performance nvidia processor > turn v-sync off and AA. Should help.

Early Beta (not supposed to post screen shots). Settings All ultra, disabled HBAO, AA/AF=0). FPS outdoors 30-35 FPS indoors 36-46. Resolution 1366x768. Driver 275.33 (WHQL). GPU 750/900. CPU (default bios A01 and default settings). Windows 7 64 home, 4gb ram. 64 gb SSD. Works fine at mostly Ultra settings so I bet its only going to get better than this.
-
im gonna go back to 275.33, because i get like 15-20 fps on ultra with 285.38 the "bf3" driver
have you tried the updated driver yet?? -
-
-
yeah it was specifically designed for bf3, though im thinkng that the 275.33 driver i was using before produced better results if what lancer is saying is true. because at medium right now 766 im getting about 40 fps which isnt what i want
-
-
I wouldn't update to "newest" bf3 drivers until the game actually launches next month.
-
-
-
my cpu gets so hot while playing this game!!!
-
You can download that driver (280.38): Here -
and around 30 while recording with fraps.... all on low still
-
I put it on medium @ 1600 x 900 and easilly play it on medium. GPU overclocked to 720/1000 and it never goes out of the 60's
Very surprised. On the desktop I can max it out completely so I won't be using the M14x so much. -
-
They're in my sig ^_^
Latest official drivers that work

Perhaps, I have an SSD on both of my machines so I can't really make a comparison. I doubt it would make *that* much of a difference
-
For game like BF3, I dont think you need a SSD to run at peak setting, plus even the recommend setting doesnt show that. The reason of having a low fps is perhaps because of BF3 built on a Desktop graphic card, and I dont think they have ever try it on Laptop during that built though.
But dont get me wrong, having a SSD also good, but it is just not a proper solution to your problem. -
i am also playing on low, with newest nvidia drivers, whitelisted, plugged in, high performance. i get between 25-35 FPS. help?
-
in the alpha i would get 30fps when outdoors it would drop. i really thought the laptop would play this tbh.

I was going to suggest the same as Justin. Are any of you already overclocking your GPU or are you all running the game with your standard settings. I have a thread on overclocking if you need some assistance with it. I'd like to know what kind of performance you're getting at ~750/1500/1000. (Remember to monitor your system and DON'T OC YOUR CPU!)
-
I forgot to link Kristofer's great thread on overclocking... are you dropping FPS or keeping a constant 30 you may want to monitor the heat on your CPU to make sure its not throttling and dropping the FPS. Also you can try apps like game fire or others that close and stop things needed on the OS in order to get better performance out of games...
-
Good stuff Justin. I'm going to add a section to my post for additional software to include apps like GameFire that can boost performance. Thanks! -
Big thing here is what they recommend which is the Geforce GTX 560
PassMark - GeForce GTX 560 - Price performance comparison
Here is ours (give or take)
PassMark - GeForce GT 555M - Price performance comparison
Mind you this is an outside review, but it shows that the recommended is at least twice (if not more) faster then the GPU in the m14x
Here are my suggestions:
1. Use an external monitor with a lower res 1280X1024 or 1024X768
2. Overclock the GPU in order to get better performance (see Kristofer's excellent post)
3. Try some game optimization software to help clear your system for better performance
4. Better cooling (cooling pad) means less throttling which will help get better performance out of these smokin hot processors
5. Latest Beta drivers, they can cause lots of problems but may also boost some preformance
6. Check your Physx settings... if you want more performance out of the GPU switch it to CPU
7. Monitor your system, check your GPU usages/CPU usage and look for reasons why...
8. Keep tinkering with settings, it has been shown that one setting can drop your FPS by 30-40% if you know which one. This was the same problem with Crysis 1 when it came out... they just found ways to boost it...
9. Be patient... most software shops didn't have time to test on every single device so they build boxes that are above the midline and go with it. As the customers start complaining they start patching...
Hope these tips help! -

Most overclocking software isn't going to reapply your settings after a restart but should keep the settings active while the software is running. -
everyone reading this thread, if you already own the bf3 beta and the m14x please consider my thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/614249-m14x-battlefield-3-beta-perfomance-thread.html
i would be very grateful for some objective (!!) bf3 beta perfomance feedback because i would only get the m14x if bf3 runs good enough -
Not sure what's going on with those framerates...
I'm running BF3 Beta on my m14 with Detail at Ultra and every other setting a mix of Medium and High. FPS seems perfect; more than satisfactory for gameplay. I'll redownload Fraps to give an exact number when I have time later today.
For now, my GPU is NOT overclocked and I have installed the Beta driver from Nvidia for BF3. -
thanks clear note good to hear that!
-
-
Clear - Could you give us exactly the items in the advanced options menu that you tweaked from high to medium settings? So we can try to copy your actions.
Thanks,
Chris -
Using the newest beta drivers 285.38, overclocked to 700/1000 I get around 35 fps using the "auto" setting, but its very playable.
-
285.35 driver user here. All settings are high, res 1600x900. Super smooth, 35-45fps depend on location. Didn't even white list the game, it's auto-recognized.
-
Guess I'll have to try all high like zephir's config...
Anyway, my Fraps numbers turned up with a high of 47 and an average of 38 with Auto selected (Ultra Detail, All else Medium).
My previous settings (Ultra, high, and medium mixed) had an average of around 34 fps. -
im using 285.35 and get around 35-50 fps on auto settings on 900p. was hoping for better but whatever. overclocked to 740/1480.
cpu gets into high 80's and low 90's. -
Not overclocked, on the "Auto" settings (Textures Ultra, the rest medium), get 35-40 FPS on 1600x900.
Overclocked, I can manage 40-50FPS (Depending). -
-
then just relaim that fault. in EU/GER, you as costumer have the right to return the item/funds if a certain number of repair attemts fail. dunno if its any kinda same in your country.
