I have an m14x with the Intel i7 2820 which is supposed to turbo boost to 3.4Ghz. I loaded up Intel's turbo boost monitor tool and also several CPU max programs. The highest my CPU goes is 3.1Ghz.

    Any ideas?

3.4 I believe is for single threaded apps (single core) and 3.1 is max turbo for all four cores. Your apps must be multi threaded

the 3.4gjz figure is for only one core. To reach 3.1ghz with all your cores is quite impressive
