After today's update with Nvidia driver 314.07 whql, the note goes in slow motion!
Programs, windows, audio, video ... EVERYTHING!
I tried several times to uninstall (also using ccleaner keeper and driver) and reinstall the 307 ... but nothing to do, it is still slow.
I called Dell support and they told me to reinstall the operating system ... but this is not a great intuition, up there, we arrived too.
I am very disappointed: The note has 9 days and have tried to apply the right of withdrawal

Try a s ystem restore, we recommend on Optimus Units like yours to run only with the DELL drivers.

Took me 6 Months to find the Solution to this Bug, somehow im glad that im not alone with it ..

    Solution is:

Enable BT and WIFI and Reboot. Never swith BT or WIFI off or the bug comes back after the next Reboot!

Dont ask me why but this is the Solution, hope it works 4 you, lemme know.

BTW: Restore and reinstall dosnt help bug comes back after few reboots. Hope Dell fix this soon.

    GL

Hi, who has had the same problem with R1, solved by placing the A05 bios, installed the 313.96 beta drv, rebooted and after updated bios with A08.

You have tried, or you can try to do that on R2?.

Although it is not the same problem, if you can put 313.96, after perhaps the problem goes away.

    Ciao :)

Do you have an mSATA SSD acting as a caching drive for a standard HDD? If so, my best guess is the software used for caching is Nvelo's "DATAPLEX" and that particular caching utility has caused problems in the past. I had it when I used an OCZ Synapse Cache 128gb in my desktop, and after a day or so, my computer would run in slow motion. Framerates were unaffected and remained high, however, it was going very slow as you described.

My best and only solution is to verify that you're indeed configured with a caching drive, and then immediately uninstall the caching software. You can use the msata SSD as a primary OS drive and install your games and other programs elsewhere. Even if its only 32GB in size, it will be perfectly adequate for your operating system and all applicable updates.

Others may have come up with quick fixes but they've only appeared to be temporary stop gaps to a greater problem: Caching just sucks :)

How did it go? Are you still having trouble with your laptop's video driver?

Sorry for the delay .... first of all thank all those who participated in the thread, showing that this is a real problem that plagues our notes :(
To solve this, of course I had to reformat and reinstall win7 with the old drivers 307, certified by Dell...but I'll have to keep these drivers forever? in 'waiting of certifying other newer? ...risk all the time to nail the notes for a very simple upgrade video driver is intolerable

I had the same exact problem as you did. I recently got the M14x R2 and obviously decided to update the Nvidia drivers. After installing them, everything ran like and gaming wasn't even an option. Even when I restored it to a previous date, the problem persisted so I had to factory restore it to get it working again. It seems like Alienware laptops, or at least this particular one, doesn't work with official Nvidia drivers. This really pisses me off seeing how the Nvidia Driver updates are optimized for a lot of popular games; a lot of which I own, and the fact that the latest Video Card driver for the M14X R2 was released 12/12 of LAST YEAR. I feel like they aren't going to update them anymore, or make it compatible with Nvidia Driver updates. It's really frustrating

You hit exactly the problem and the impression I got after contacting support several times, is that they know so much the problem as the fact that it is unsolvable...and can not "solve" always saying to mount the old drivers certified by Dell DOES NOT EXIST! Now it is clear that this has notes of hardware defects that seem irreparable.
What I will do will be to check the technical malfunctioning after updating the drivers, then pass the ball in their hands ... but one thing is for sure, do not keep a note that I can not update the video card drivers.
