Heard about these throttling back in mid 2011, and now i'm in the market for a new laptop.

Anyone with the R3 have any throttling, heat or issues you can let me know about? I'm looking to get a 14 or 17 sized alienware.

M14X throttle? I have yet to see a post about it.

Perhaps a select few had these issues, but it's definitely not mainstream.

You may have been confused from the threads regarding gaming on battery. When you play high-demanding games on battery the computer downclocks to conserve battery life, which hurts gaming performance (could cause lag/throttling in high-demanding games with high graphical presets). Otherwise, your laptop would only game for 30-45 minutes and then die (which is meaningless to do in my opinion). This is normal.

The M14X is an excellent choice. You get the best of both world's - performance and mobility.

I guess he meant the cpu throttling issue on R1 because of excessive heat with turbo boost on and crap dell thermal paste. If you elevate your laptops back and disable turbo boost on R1 there is no way you can throttle and when you apply new thermal paste you even decrease your temps even further.

R2 has much less heat recordings from the new users, so it wont have any issue with heat.

There were posts on here regarding issues with certain games and throttling on the R1 but you could sort the problems by the methods that Thornox has pointed out.

Again the R2 shouldn't have any of the same issues.
