Dataplex software is used for caching the "hot" data from a hard disk drive to a separate solid state drive. I had an OCZ caching drive and it didn't work well so I just used it like a regular SSD.
Basically, "hot" data is the programs and files that are accessed most often. Parts of them (chosen by Dataplex) get stored on the SSD for quick access and loading. After loading up Firefox or booting Windows 3 or 4 times in succession, it became very fast.
It works like this:
You have your target drive, call it "C:" which is your 1TB hard disk with all your games and most used applications. You will have your caching drive, which the software will hide from your Computer / Explorer views so you cannot inadvertently erase data.
Following the rest of the software steps and such, the more you use a specific program, the faster it will load. I have had my machine boot in as little as 10 seconds or so and games fired up in mere seconds...However, I had issues with games and Windows loading quickly, but then running as if they were in slow motion, hence the reason I ditched it.
Truthfully, if you plan on using it, I wouldn't. I would just reformat your machine and use your SSD as the OS install location and your HDD as your primary storage location
Anyone know what DELL "Dataplex cache software from NVELO" found in the recommended driver downloads is or what its for?
