I am not sure about you guys, but I was really into the LG P330 laptop and its finally out couple of month ago. But what? it doesnt for sale in states?
...
the only reason i would chose this laptop over M14X is its weight. I mean, come on, same GPU 555M and i7, but over 2.5 lb lighter! P330 is only 3.8lb!
seriously, where is all the extra weight that the M14X has? ok, M14X is a bit bigger, and it got DVD-rom, and maybe an older design of GPU. but 2.5lb heavier?
anyone ever try do make some magic to reduce the weight of the M14X?![]()

Im curious to see how the cooling will be on a machine like this. The M14x has a decent size fan that has difficulty keeping the CPU and GPU cool. Having opened up my M14x I dont really see how they could make the computer much smaller. Internal components are crammed in there pretty tightly.
-
The battery is alot bigger, there's a DVD drive, it has (or was designed for) a full quad core i7, and probably has a better cooling system. Some of it was that it was designed for the GF106 version of the 555M, but hopefully the m14x will be a bit slimmer this time. Thats my guess at least. Really hoping they drop the optical drive, imagine if this thing was as thin as the m11x?

What I like about the LG is it comes stock with a 40GB SSD + 640GB HD ...however the speed of the 640 remains a mystery.
Apparently it's selling for 1,220$ USD in Korea (after conversion).
Also, the LG is 13.3", so you'd lose 0.7" if compared to the M14X.
To me, it looks like an upgraded Acer Timeline 3830 (i3 SB/540m/13.3"/640GB 5.4k).
Hopefully it won't have the same atrocious throttling/overheating issues like the 3830 currently has. The 3830 sells for 529$ on occasion at Staples Canada. -
does dell gonna release a m14xr2 sometimes soon??
-
Unlikely. Heard the Ivy Bridge processors were pushed back. When those are released, expect a new generation of Alienware laptops with the new generation of processors.
-
Speculation says Ivy Bridge CPU with a re-branded 555m GPU. If that's the case, the performance difference between the R1 and R2 won't be that much. -
well, even if there is a new m14x, it will probably never be as light as a m11x... alone to be light as p330
-
LG's P330 13.3-inch ultra-thin laptop
Finally what I'm also even more curious to see is how the laptop keep the heat pump out, as many of us here know how the GT555M & the i7 CPU being a heat source, and as an ultra-thin laptop, that's an interesting question. -
See the review here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lg/636568-lg-p330-review-natadiem.html
It uses a full 35W i5-2435m CPU, and apparently there's an i7 dual core version as well. The 555m has reduced performance over the M14x one, but that wouldn't account for weight because they have the same TDP requiring comparable cooling.
I really want to see the LG P330 in the states with an Ivy Bridge refresh. -
there is i7 out there for P330, this guy selling it on ebay with i7 but with $2200...
three thing is stopping me from going all out for the P330.
1. warranty
2. no backlit keyboad.... come on, I like work in the dark
3. no 1600 x 900
one thing stopping me from M14X
1. 6.5lb -
6.5lb is nothing to carry around daily. Its a very compact machine if you ask me.
-
-
it is not too much when carry around. but when you have it on you lap for a while, its quite something.
but i think I will still get one...later... -
I have it on my lap for 4-5 hours a day to produce electronic music and game.
Even carrying it outside, it's light as a feather if you have a backpack (over-the-shoulder bags are terrible for gaming laptops).
No offence, but people who struggle to carry a 6.5LBS laptop or find it inconvenient really needs to re-evaluate their lifestyle and get a gym membership
Something like an M18X for example I could understand since it's more of an annoyance to lug around and set-up on-the-go. -
Have it on my lap now, feels just fine.
And again, we're trying to tell you, the i7 is dual core, its pretty much an overpriced i5 -
I think the weight is perfect for what this little machine does,
and wow, you guys game with it on your lap, plan to have kids anytime soon HAHA -
come on guys, there is no "perfect weight" or "just fine weight".
if there are two companies made two similar laptop fits your needs in everyway, quality, spec, warranty, looks etc, but one is 2.5 lb lighter, tell me, are you gonna pick the heavier one?
I am not saying P330 will match M14x, if it does, I would already jump on one instead making cmplains here
its 3.7 lb vs 6.5lb (42% lighter) with maybe 10 -15% perfomance lost? (guessing)
Had a M11X before which is still alittle bit heavier than P330. that feels fine for me
wouldnt you guys want a M14X with M11X weight? -
-
Hi guys, I bought the lg p330, I dont have it yet (its at the customs -.-) but im very well informed about it!
The 555m is weaker, its about the same as the 555m in the clevo laptops..
Also the cooling does work pretty well it seems, just check out the lg p330 review thread on this forum..
I wanted to wait for the ivy bridge refresh too but considering this only came out in south korea at the end of the sandy bridge cycle (in december 2011) I would not want to wait that long again just to find out the sucessor will only be avaible in s. korea.. so who knows if there will even be a refresh in 2012 -
while i have to say that that laptop looks pretty nice with it's weight and power... i'm extremely happy with my m14x and wouldn't trade it for that even if offered... and with alienware it seems that their refurbs are great (had 1 new purchase and 2 refurbs after that... all the refurbs are comparable to the new laptop)... a little extra weight (of COURSE you need a sexy swiss backback to carry your sexy backlit keyboard-always-being-complimented laptop in) doesn't bother me in the least. the power brick isn't that big compared to other laptops (my m11x's is 2/3's the size but i'm not upset really). the battery power is decent and i have little to no problems with raw power when it comes to gaming with my nvidia graphics card. the i7 isn't undervolted like some other "ultraportables"... which is distinctly gratifying when you go from an m11x (undervolted) to an m14x. but if any of your do go with the LG P330 Notebook please let us know how it treats you (especially if you've owned/own an m14x before/currently)!
Anyone see the new LG P330? So where does all the extra weight that M14X has?
