I ordered my laptop from Costco, and its already shipped out. Now I know alienware charges 20$ for bluetooth integration, but seriously why is this an option?

This and the fact that we still advertise that cars INCLUDE a/c (which is a standard) is just pathetic.

Anyways, any1 know if I can grab the bluetooth piece off ebay and put it in myself or if I can take into a local Dell and have them install it?

    Thank You :)

    You can install it yourself.

BT is a luxury to some. I for 1, never used it on a laptop even though I've had it before. The only time I used BT was to connect a keyboard to my iPhone to text with.

Hmm, I tend to agree in that every other laptop I see at this price integrates bluetooth as standard, why doesn't Dell? On the other hand if I did not have a bluetooth mouse then I would not use it otherwise, maybe a lot of people don't.

I use it with my Orochi mouse. It's not a luxury for me. For laptops, the less wires the better or else it defeats the purpose.

I ordered bluetooth with mine, to be honest, you won't really use it as much as you think. If you want to install it yourself, i think it goes under the palm rest, i could be wrong. But it might be hard to install. If you want bluetooth for a mouse, don't do it, bluetooth, even for the razor orochi mouse, is really choppy, more so than regular 2.4 ghz wireless. It won't give you the best feedback, but if you're using it for a gaming headset, then go right ahead.

I have the Bluetooth but haven't used it, nor have a real use for it. The reviews I read for Bluetooth mice weren't favorable.

I think it's not a luxury. It is about necessary or not. I never use my bluetooth. I even disable it to save battery lol.

Actually, VW sells new cars with no AC and no radios... it pretty common now to not pay for something you dont plan to use.

The last 4 laptops and 3 phones I've owned had bluetooth (one such phone even came with a BT earpiece). Never even enabled it to see if it worked.

The M14x package I ordered already had BT in it, otherwise I'd look at it as "I paid $20 less for this laptop to not have a feature I won't use".

    Different guys, different thinking.
For me, bluetooth is a necessity.
I wont connect my cellphone using the USB cable if all I want to do is send a single photo from my cellphone to the laptop.

In most commonwealth countries, BT is a package incl with the price when you buy the laptop. So the cost already including with the laptop. And I only use BT for sending images or to use my Phone as a mobile modem or sometime BT headset, because I got a USB mouse.

See now, if there was no way for you to transfer your single photo but with BT, then BT would be a necessity.
But since you could use a USB cable, then BT becomes a luxury.

In general, convenience = luxury, no matter how clever or practical it may be.

Once Tech runs it's course a luxury becomes standard. Just like wifi is now standard in Laptops, so should bluetooth be.

When your giving an option for a 20$ part, it sounds cheap :p

Well I hope it came with it :D

I installed it on mine with a Dell 375 from ebay, it is a doddle. Just make sure you order one with a long cable just incase your m14x doesnt have the cable inside already.
Then load up the m14x bluetooth drivers and you are all set.

So i got my laptop in, I'm loving it! Its a big difference going from the desktop but its doable, since my desktop is being overrun by my gf and her autocad projects.

Bluetooth option is in Bios but the computer doesn't physically have bluetooth.

For now I'll manage without it and try to figure out something. I wish there were 4 usb slots now :p Never satisfied!!!

Here is Something a little off topic. I'm running a lot of games at 1080p since I have it connected to an external monitor and a lot of them surprisingly run well like dead island and cod...but in left 4 dead 2, my frames show 60+ but the game physical like it's hitching and just feels like it's not 60 frames per second?

    Can any1 confirm this?

    Thank You

    P.S

Any program to turn the battery off/on when ur in windows? I remember there was one for the m11x:S

    Thanks!

    LOL Very clever :D

    OP:
    Amazon.com: intel advanced bluetooth

Can't you just upgrade your wireless card and get bluetooth included in it at the same time?

If bluetooth is 20$, why not spend a little more and get a better wireless card at the same time :)
