Obviously I don't want to dish out another 60 bucks to get it on both systems, and I am not entirely sure if the gameplay on the M14X is that smooth, so what should I get BF3 for? Right now all I really play on my laptop is SC2, and TF2...

works fine on a gt555m, mine's overclocked but still with a mix of medium and high settings running at 768p I'm getting 40fps+, usually around the 45fps mark
considering the console versions are basically the pc version on "low" with SSAO and motion blur enabled and they only run at 30fps with a bit of slowdown and a max of 32players if I remember correctly then yes, it's far better on the m14x
would recommend you overclock... and of course if you have more friends on xbox live that'll prob make the game more fun -
There are pro's and con's to both sides. Xbox 360 is like 6 year old technology, compared to the m14x, the xbox lacks a lot of detail. But xbox IMO has a better community online. I'm in the same boat as you for both bf3 and mw3, but I'll probably get bf3 for the pc and mw3 for the xbox.
-
I think it boils down to if you want Origin or not.
-
i say m14x, if you want it on xbox, m14x with xbox controler
-
since the gameplay on console and pc is naturally absolutely different, you should take the system you prefer for ego shooters.
my buddy liked it on both ps3 and pc, but were playing on PC only togheter. its just more intense imho -
I'd say M14x. been playing single player on high and multiplayer on medium. and tbh, you dont really notice the difference!
-
M14x FTW!!! For Xbox you not only get a lower quality rendering (Assuming you buy the 4GB version) plus you will be limiting at 30fps, for M14x if you overclock the GPU, at least at get a higher fps and with better graphic tweak at your will.
-
Does Xbox really run at only 30 fps??? It looks higher than that! But I think I'm in the same boat with niko, I don't think most of my friends have BF3 anyways, but all of them will get MW3...
And,
friends on Xbox:65
Friends on PC:0. -
I got it for both pc and ps3. Even though it is only 30fps, I couldnt see a difference between 45fps and a constant 30 fps. All it comes down to is if you are more comfortable with console controller or mouse and keyboard (People say to use a a controller on PC version, but most probably you will get slaughtered against someone with a mouse) Battlefield die hard fans will say its a PC game, but BF3 was made for console. Plain and simple.
I kinda find it funny how people only like a game because of its graphics....(No wonder RPG's suck nowadays), first person shooter games are based on the game play. graphics are nice and all, but its not a deal breaker for me.
Go for both PC and Console version, that is what I did -
personally, i dont like the game, counter strike source FTW
but it depends on who you wanna play the game with, its really pure multiplayer, id say if your friends play xbox get it on xbox
-
Yes, Read this Battlefield 3 to run in 720p, 30fps on consoles In fact both console will be limiting at 30fps, because of the hardware age. And MW3 will be running at 60fps max, the reason would be obvious since MW3's engine is a 3-4 years old build, and doesnt require much of a both graphical and CPU power.
But let be realistic, those console are 5-6 years old hardware, and those console player should thanks DICE for not give them a choppy graphic or tiny map (though they say it is being trim down to fit the system) by allowing only 24 players max. If they really want to get a 64 player like PC, then buy a PC, and I'm pretty sure that if DICE allow it to have a 64 players in a game, the fps would be severely drop to the unplayable fps. -
Xbox - Pro's
1. Ease of operation (put disc in, fire up xbox, play)
2. Chat integration
3. Community (i guess this could be a con as well depending on age group)
4. Play on large 1080p tv
M14x
1. Graphics level higher (mix of ultra/med/aa/af off)
2. More server options (to play on and host from)
3. Portable
4. Community (minus hackers) -
Hmm, just picked it up for PC, definitely going to get MW3 for Xbox though, if I get it at all. That series is going down hill.
-
Pc's are for the die hard gamers, consoles are for amateurs, IMO the Pc community is generally smarter, less trash talking, and more intense. Xbox live is just filled with basically the average population. Thats just my opinion, i barely play my xbox anymore.
-
BF3 keeps crashing! GPU usage maxes at 99 when it does, installing the most recent driver now, the one I have on is pretty old.

This is one of the reasons I bought the Alienware m14x. I was going to buy a gaming desktop because I wanted to see what it was like to game on a PC after reading many game reviews explaining how the graphics and gameplay was better on PCs than consoles, but I needed a laptop so I went with m14x.
The people saying PCs are better for gaming are correct -- Dragon Age: Origins looks like a completely different game; its graphics are the WORST on an Xbox but actually look really good on PC on high or ultra settings. The same goes for Bethesda games like Fallout and Oblivion (and Skyrim) as well as multiplayer games. If you have good speakers or a really good headset then a game just sounds and feels more immersive. I imagine on a desktop it is even better.
MW3 more like Call of Duty 8. They are definitely milking that series. What surprises me isn't that they are making a Call of Duty 8 or even 9 (World at War 2 lol :/) but the fact that people are actually still buying them even though they are just the same game re-skinned.
Play Counterstrike Source and then download some different half-life mods and see how the same exact game can just be re-modeled and changed slightly for FREE and be a completely different game. The difference is half-life mods are generally free or really cheap and Xbox players are shelling out $60 each time. Also, you can't choose the maps you play on and you cannot create your own maps and upload it to the community. But since I want to know what the hell happens to Soap Mactavish or whatever I will probably be buying it also.......... -
1. Ease of operation (put disc in, fire up xbox, play)
For laptop it is a one off installation, even easier than Xbox, just 2 step and you can enjoy your game - double click on the BF3 icon (assuming you already have Origin open) and play!
2. Chat integration
This is what a PC is kinda lack of, but as I know Windows 7 has a Windows Live integration too, and if I can remember well, you can use Win Live Messenger to text/video/voice chat with your friend on X360 as well (But Kinect is needed, this is the down side) but hey that's what Battlelog is made for, because it also has a VOIP integrate too!
3. Community (i guess this could be a con as well depending on age group)
PC community if with the comparison, Xbox's would be unmatched, but yeah I agree.
4. Play on large 1080p tv
Isn't this with PC work the same way? On Xbox you still have to connect the HDMI cable in order to play, and for PC it is same thing! But if you were talking about BF3, then sorry mate even with a 1080p TV you still limiting to 720p because the game doesnt support it, and for PC, it wouldnt be any problem.
But in the end of the day, M14x is a laptop where you can carry it anywhere, and do whatever you want with it, even you travel you can always carry it with you - Gaming OTG (Need power adapter but at least it is better than console where you MUST have a TV nearby which is not as convenience as a Laptop). But both Console and PC has its good and bad side, and both has its own convenience.
I have found a solution that work for me, If you have OC your GPU, then try reset to the stocked clock however if still want to OC then try it to around 50Mhz ~ 200Mhz from the stocked clock, say the stock of GT555M is 590/900 (Core/Mem), then try between 640/950 ~ 800/1100 any higher (IF you have an unlocked voltage GPU BIOS installed) would crash BF3 on start up. -
I have already put in 5 days worthin on BF3 on the Xbox. Is so much simpler. If you don't like tweaking and troubleshooting go that route. I am using a wired 360 controller on my m14x and it works good. Trying to figure the right sensitivity for the right stick is a pain. Also have to hold down left stick for speed boost in vehicles. On Xbox press once to turn it on and once to turn it off. Either way you will be happy.
-
If you use the wired controller on the pc, you are playing with a handicap, the mouse and keyboard is superior, trust me after going 5 and 20 in 10 games using the wired controller I finally realized i couldn't compete with the mouse and keyboard,
BF3, M14x or Xbox?
