M14x R1 btw.
AlienRespawn said that the battery is at 81% of its max capacity...
This is on the lowest brightness and bluetooth off, and on battery saver...
Averages around 1.5 hours.
I heard on the internet that if I run it under water with the power unplugged, the laptop will be good as new, but i'm skeptical...
Should I send it in or put it in the bath with me tomorrow night?
-
Is this a serious question? Your problem seems to be that your battery has already seen it's best time and doesn't last long, so I suggest
buying a new battery, which may probably solve the problem.
Now to the other point, where on earth did they suggest to TAKE A BATH with your notebook?!? I recommend not doing that, unless you want to totally destroy your notebook,
which won't survive a trip like this one and may harm you too... Again, don't bathe with it! -

I'm not sure what to write...........but this is just too funny.
-
Okay, so water = bad.
but yes it was a serious question. So the battery is effed, does the warranty cover that or should i just buy a new one? It's gonna cost around $80.
can i just open the battery up and swap out the internals? would that be cheaper? -
I hate it when people bump threads.

Is the nvidia gpu running when you're doing daily tasks (web browsing, etc.)? The reason I ask is because Optimus in my computer doesn't know how to switch off the nvidia gpu when at idle, so my battery life is estimated at about 3 hours. So I have to prefer the integrated graphics through the nvidia control panel under the global settings. When I run off the integrated graphics, my battery life shoots up to 7 hours. An easy way to check if your computer is running the nvidia gpu is to just HWMonitor and run it. If it shows the nvidia gpu temps, then it's in use.
Hope this helps! -
-
No offence, but you are exaggerating with your 7 hours... 7h with your screen and keyboard lights off? Even that I do not believe it's possible. Maybe you can stretch it maximum for about 4 hours if you struggle to do it, but lets not go into since fiction now...
-
I don't think this is covered by warranty, so you would have to buy it on your own... but:
Yes, this means it is on, which could cause your power consumption while the battery is maybe alright..
You can follow now the steps bryannn029 mentioned and go to the Nvidia Control Center and set the integrated graphics as default, and
check again for your battery life. -
okay will do thanks
-
it seems like it's still on, maybe you should restart your machine.
-
I meant to say it's estimated at 7 hours, I haven't actually tested to see if it runs for 7 hours straight because I don't have that kind of time. Would be pretty cool if it did though!
-
that was after a restart, and its still showing the same thing.
-
It could just be the battery being tuckered out then. How long was your battery life before?
-
Where do I find the Open hardware monitor or do I need to download it. thanks
-
Google "Optimus tools", you can download it, there are two small programs that can easily tell you if your nvidia gpu is on or off. I have an r1 I do not know for sure if it works with r2.
-
good man! It says using one tool that it is off... and the other tool says IDLE.
Either my GPU has won american idol, or it is working as it should be.
which is sadly bad news as I'm back to square one.
WHY IT NO WORK!
My battery used to last about 3.5 hours... now it tops out at 2.
80% battery capacity... that means that if it was 100%, it would last 2.5 hours... which is still pretty crap. -
Could it be because i updated it to windows 8?

The only way that the operating system could affect the performance of your battery would be the amount of processes running and the power settings chosen.
These tips will help you get more out of your battery life.
Keep in mind that laptop batteries carry a 1-year warranty independently from the warranty purchased with your system. -
So, its been a month and now my battery lasts about 1 hour and 40 minutes, tops.
my battery went from 80% designed capacity to 74%...
I'm on A08 if anyone cares.
. so pissed off. this computer has gone from not bad to hell. -
1 hour and 40 minutes while gaming? or idle and surfing the web?
-
idle and surfing the web. I would unplug the laptop and watch an nba game from my couch while chatting with some buds and it would die around the 3rd quarter... lol.
somethings definitely wrong here. I recently updated to windows 8 and I don't recall it ever being this bad, though I don't have specific numbers.
Can I log back into windows 7 somehow and check the battery life? I'm thinking maybe its a driver issue that keeps certain processes on instead of going to standby, like usb or hdd... -
Download HWinfo kiddo and go to battery and tell me battery wear level.
-
I couldn't find HWinfo kiddo but i got HWinfo64 and it seemed to do the trick i hope thats okay.
battery wear level: 26.7% -
I had to laugh a bit about the "HWinfo kiddo"
battery wear level 26.7% means that your battery is worn out 26.7%, making your actual capacity now 73.3%...
If this bothers you that much, I still recommend, as I did earlier, to get a new battery for your notebook. -
yeah i realize that, and that is my last resort, but even if it was 100%, it still would only last me about 2 and a half hours... which i guess isn't terrible but its not what it used to be.
i still think its driver incompatibility with windows 8, but i'll get a battery and see how that goes.
Battery lasting me 2 hours if i'm lucky
