Just a quick one, in your opinions what is the best cooling pad for the m14x?????
My laptop will be delivered soon, and am just planning ahead.

I'll get the IC Diamond, from the reviews I read it seems to be a good cooling pad.
-
I like the small Cooler Master U1. It's smaller than the laptop, comes with a fully adjustable fan (in terms of position, not speed), and has a USB extender, so it doesn't hog the port it's in.

Pad, not paste.

Oh sorry...

I'm using the coolermaster notepal ergo, and I like it. Adjustable, has 4 USB ports, 140mm fan dropped my temps ~15*C from being flat on desk when playing BF:BC2.
-
Does it work well for using it on your lap too?
-
i havent tried but probably not, its a bit big.
-
I don't have M14x but I really like my Cooler Master u2. Should fit the M14x fine as it fits the 15" MBP fine and it's just barely wider than the U2. Adjustable fans so you can set both right under each air vent..
-
Yeah, I'm thinking about getting the U2. My only concern is that I would want to be able to put my laptop in it and then put it in my computer pocket on my backpack for when I go to LAN parties. It's 2.3" thick and the computer pocket on my backpack is 1.75" thick. It MIGHT fit since it's fabric and it will have some extra room in the other dimensions, but I dunno.

I like the targus chillmat, pretty good just get it at best buy and if you dont like it return it

CM Storm SF19 is great if you dont mind the loud fan noise

I want the coolermaster notepal e1, but I don't see it for sale here in the U.S.

I bought the Akasa Echo cooler from amazon. I wanted something portable, light and inexpensive. It folds up a little so it fits nicely into my laptop bag. I haven't had a chance to properly try it out yet, but it has two cooling fans (70x70x15) and takes one of the USB ports for power. Definitely worth a look if you want something small.

I just ordered the CM U2, I'll let you guys know how it works out once I get it.
-
Sweet, I was considering getting that one.
-
I got my U2 in last week and love it.
I set the 2 fans under the 2 vents on the M14x. During a normal game session I very rarely hear the computer fan anymore but it does still ramp up from time to time.
In the end though the overall temp and nosie are down. The U2 is very quite IMO.
Also if you didnt knwo there is no need to tools to move the fan they are quick release. The U2 also subs as a protective cover that is prefectly sized to the M14x. Ill take a picture and post it a little later. -
Nice! I'll probably get one too! Seems like a pretty good fit for the m14x with the 2 fans. Dimensions are about right too.

oh, LOL!! I have the 12" variant of that for my m11x
-
no chance of it scratching the finish when using it as a case?
-
Wow that looks pretty slick as a case and the fans look like they work out well. My only concern is if I'll be able to squeeze it into the notebook compartment of my backpack for when I'm going to lan parties. The compartment is only 1.75" thick and cooler is 2.3" at it's thickest point...but the compartment does stretch some...
Thanks for the pics!! -
it has rubber pads covering all the right places on the inside
No scratching
It even comes with a velcro/spandex belt to keep the "shell" inplace ontop of your laptop

Can you please give us a small review about the U2, like temps without the cooler and with the cooler?
-
Quick review would be that in short test like a 3dmark11 run you will be about 5-7 degree C cooler in max temps while avg run temps with be down 8 or so. In longer run you will see it shine with differences up into 12-18 degrees and notice your fan rarely ramps up to annoying speeds and sound.
so quick rundown in temp changes
Idle = ~2
Short runs = ~7
Long runs = ~15
and of course less fan nosies. -

Thanks and what were the numbers?
-
Drop in Degrees Celsius
-
Tsukurimashou Notebook Evangelist
Yes but the real numbers like 60°C for the proc and 50°C for the GPU during 3dmark with cooler and without cooler.
-
Highs with cooler
CPU = 78
GPU = 60
Highs w/o
CPU = 87
GPU = 67
Those are the number after running 3DMark11
Running WoW (Ultra Dx11 settings) for 2 hours with cooler my temps sit about:
CPU = 69
GPU = 56 -
Are there any good cooling pads you guys would recommend from the Dell Canada website?
My order got delayed and I managed to bargain for a $100 coupon. -

Thanks a lot, is this with stock thermal paste? -
Yes it is.
-
Tsukurimashou Notebook Evangelist
Okay thanks a lot, I think I'll buy one
-
The CM U2 does an all around great job. I've used it for my prior laptop purchases.
-
Looks like it will be the U2 for me also.
Cheers with the help guys
