I bought my m14x used last year on October. It ran well and still does. But every so often when I would boot I would reach the windows loading screen with some sort of checkered pattern. I thought it was the hard drive so I replaced it with a shiny new SSD.

But just now I booted up and I received the same screen. Outside of the the computer is working well. I just don't know what this problem could be and what it could lead to.

    Any idea whats causing this?

it can be any problem since you are not getting a particular error name
one way to sort it out is to dun dell diagnostics. you can run it on boot by pressing F12. Select dell diagnostic from there and it will start running test.
Wait for it to finish to see if shows some error. by the look of your screen , i am sure test can tell you more abut it.

I just ran the test but no results. And booting up this time was fine. I thought it would be the graphics card or RAM but I have no problems when actually using the computer.

try taking batt out disconnecting power and hold on for 20 secs then reconnect everything it doesnt look like a static build up but its best to rule it out
