Hey guys, just joined and this is my first post... Just got a brand new Alienware m14x and i do love it and this is also my very first laptop however, something thats annoying me is that the spacebar squeaks and is the only key that squeaks like this. I called alienware about this last week and they sent a tech with a brand new keyboard and installed it and to my surprise, it squeaks just the same as the last one did... Any feedback or advice? Do you guys think i should call them back until they can get one that doesnt squeak or do they all simply squeak like a mouse? Every other key on the keyboard is perfect and has a silent click to it... Just wanting opinions on what you think i should do... Thanks...

The keyboard squeaks, accept it. Mine does too. And it's not only the spacebar.

Edit: It's actually just the spacebar and the enter keys.

Mine started to squeak roughly 3 weeks in. It didn't bother me so much until I realized there were threads about it and how people were getting keyboard replacements (don't know if it's still valid now though.)

    Mine is beginning.

My philosophy is, if it's not louder than the fan, I'll live.

Yeah and the replacements do nothing but still squeak so thats why i dont know what to do... It almost sounds to me like they all are going to do that unless someone states otherwise but you'd think if they could get the other keys so quiet, why cant they this one?

Mine only squeaks when I tap either side. If I tap the center of the spacebar I get no squeak. For now.

Maybe you could pull out the space bar and check if the attachment is flexible enough or broken/cracked?

Personally, as long as it doesn't pop out/break, I have no problem with the squeak. The key is still smooth and responsive, and the fan noise or the speakers/earphones are louder anyway.

My fans rarely kick on and my problem is opposite of yours as it squeaks in the middle and not the sides

Put some oil on it ;)

The reason for the spacebar squeaking is because of it's length and the material that is used in the pressure pads. I assume it has two pressure pads connected, and they squeak based on if they are pushed straight down or not.

The left Shift key can also squeek and I think you will just have to accept it. Kind of stupid that they sell such an expensive laptop and cannot figure out how to stop the key from squeeking. Other than that the keyboard is the best on a laptop that I have ever used except maybe some of the Apple keyboards.

Yeah I was just gonna say, I haven't used a better keyboard than the ones apple makes.
