Hows the build quality on the m14x? I originally wanted an m17x but it might indeed be too big and also people are complaining/ have issues with brand new ones straight out of the box. There are horror stories of all the stuff they had to go through to get a working m17x, and honestly i dont have the time or patience to deal with that. Havent seen too many complaints about the m14x, but im asking just to make sure. Want a hassle free machine asap.

well the assembly of the whole cpu. For instance people said their brand new m17x's were coming with scratches, missing screws not holding the heatsink and cards etc, were plagued with freezing and crashes

IMO. The build quality is really, really good, the chassis and the base of the laptop is rubber-like feeling when you touch the surface of the chassis. No problem or whatsoever when I first receive it, everything is perfect.

But if you dont mind about the reflectiveness of the screen which is okay with me and apart from the heat issue, I dont see any problem with it.

EDIT: About the keyboard, there're some key that is squeaky, I think mine is the "Backspace", the "HOME", the INSERT/ALIEN FX, and the DELETE button overall they are all okay.

I too think the build quality overall is excellent, my first m14x which I returned had little nicks and marks all over it. Soft touch has a superb quality feel.

Only minor niggles are, the shiny plastic surrounding the fake vents at the front, pick up the slightest marks. The keyboard is good for typing on but spacebar leaves alot to be desired, mines still wonky as havent rang dell to sort it out.

Screen could have been more rigid.

On the whole though I think its a great little machine and should last me a year or so. Really looking forward to see what an r2 brings, would be seriously tempted.
