Greetings all,
I have this old notebook that needs to be retired... After some research, I came up with the m14x. It´ll defenetly supply for my gaming/engineering application needs, that are basically MMORPGs and CADs... Plus it is very stilish![]()
My question is: Is the overheating issue on the m14x so bad that it might be better to get a desktop + more portable notebook instead??
Notice1: then my notebook budget would be around 800-900 dollars (it would still need dedicated gpu)
Notice2: Brands must have international warranty options...

No the overheating issue isn't that bad. Just get a notebook cooler when you want to game on your lap or table or something else to lift it slightly from the surface for better airflow. Gaming laptops just tend to get hotter than most other laptops, thats the price you pay for portable power
Having that said, I played portal 2 for hours on my lap without a cooler and the temps didn't get above 80 degrees which is fine! -
It's really not bad, especially if you get a cooling pad (which is only like $40-50, considering you're already about to spend > $1000 anyway...). Without a cooling pad, just elevate the computer a bit like vortexblade said, and it'll be fine.

If heat is the issue, get the core i5. I suggest you get the i7 with a cooler, works great. An alienware seems to be your best bet, and the m14x would be great for you.

Hey I was looking at the M14x for myself too. I have done loads of research on tons of gaming machines and I have come up with 2 choices, the M14x or the Sager NP8150. I like M14x even if the NP8150 is faster. It has solid battery life even if it isn't the 6-7 hours they say it is and it looks great.

First, if you're getting the M14x, you need to make sure you upgrade to the 1600x900 display. The screen is the one upgrade you have to get if you're going to get the M14x. The default 1366x768 screen makes things onscreen really big because 1366x768 is the same resolution used in 12" laptops. Especially for engineering (CAD) applications, you need the better display.
