Hello, i'm a new members and i just installed a crucial m4 120gb in my M14x. I have seen many members's result and their are around 500MB/s. But my results seem to be lower. Is there anything i am doing wrong. Is there a way to make it run at Sata 3 speeds or anything i can do to improve the speeds? Thanks

what bio are you running? I Think there is a certain bios that limits the HD to SATA II instead of SATA III. You might wanna try another bios and see if that fixes it.
-
I updated my laptop to A08 and noticed it only has sata II speeds, so i flashed back to A05.
Here is what im getting after flashing:
After following this guide:
-
Try running ATTO, please and post a pic. I am very interested to see. Your speeds are AWESOME, my Vertex 3 MI performs a bit worse especially for large file reads (320 Mbps I get) in Crystal disk mark. I am really surprised how your M4 performs.
Thanx.Attached Files:

Your ATTO write score is way to low. Did you do a fresh install or migrate?
-
Did you update the FW on the SSD (0009) increased the speeds by +/-20-30%
Keep it filled under 40%
You might want to see if bios issues...for e.g us m17 users saw our SSDs go down to SATA2 speeds on the A09,and thus we downgraded to the A08
The crucial m4 is my first (and last for some time) SSD,and I am glad for all the advice I got from here regarding it's purchase....and since purchase the 502/190..with an overall of 738~ score hasn't changed since purchase 3mo.ago
I am not sure if it helps, but did you follow the list that needs to be done if you want to save your SSD from excessive wear at thessdreview.com -
I did a fresh install using the alienware windows 7 dvd i got with the laptop. I installed all the drivers expect Intel Rapid Storage. Should i installed using a retailed windows 7 dvd?
The first thing i did to the ssd was update it to 0309 bios.
laptop wise, originally i was on bios A08, this reduced my speeds to SATA II, i downgraded to A05 and thats the speeds i got. I followed this guide to setup my ssd. Will re-flashing the ssd help? -
perhaps...you can....re flash...or have you tried the newest 0039 or something for the M4.......
u sure u're in AHCI and not in RAID??? ....also turn of windows cache in device manager
also can you confirm or deny you ARE actually running in Sata 2 or sata 3 modes...... -

I could be wrong about any of this I've never had an SSD.
I haven't looked at other posts about the M4 but after looking through this thread I am wondering what problems you are seeing? All of your speeds appear to be higher than what tigerdirect and newegg are saying the rated speed is.
If anything your random 4k seems like it could be low I am not seeing a rated speed for 4k random though.
And I think if you are seeing anything above 300MB/s you are getting SATA3 speeds. Like I said I could be wrong but it seems like you are getting rated speed.
If someone says they are getting 500MB/s sequential and you are getting roughly 480MB/s I think you are doing pretty good. -
I have a 256GB M4, 0009 firmware, unlocked A05 BIOS. Linked image is my ATTO and CrystalDisk scores.

This is roughly advertised speed (ATTO actually reports ~50MBps faster reads than advertised), and the 128GB is advertised at lower rates. I believe your speeds are what they should be.
-
I think your speed look perfect (as in normal) ,check crucial forum, There are bunch of benchs.

Thanks for the help guys!

are you sure the intel drivers are upto date

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
I'll have to compare my speeds to yours when My new m4 finally gets here.
-
If i upgrade to the latest IRST drivers its drops the speeds down to Sata II.
-
oh ok....
hmmm..............i cant understand it....my drive is more occupied than yours...so that should mean my M4 should be slower than your drive......(i am a SSD noobie...but thats what i have understood in my readings)
you sure you have followed ALL the optimization guidelines on thessdreview website
one more thing...and i cant believe it should have any standing in real life..... the Crystal diskmark...is installed on your SSD..right? -
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Im jealous, those are some crazy speeds
-
Dragon...those ssd's...RAID'd?
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Yea he has them in raid
-
Raid'd and waiting for the 11.5 RST driver
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Do you know if RST helps with just a single SSD? I have it installed, but idk if its doing anything.
-
It should man. If you run crystal mark awhile later and see only an incremental decrease in speed then it is working. Also remember to leave your computer idle from time to time for TRIM to run (in case you havent already).

ah alright thanks again for the advice. +rep(when allowed)
