So finally after three months I came in US and fix my laptop (screen was staying off but everything working - changed the screeen too but the motherboard did it). I was furious because the technician didn't have any respect for my laptop. he pulled screws fast, broke some of them and on top of all when he changed my motherboard he just put the old heatsink on top of the processor and gpu without cleaning it. and he just put some cpu paste like a tape or smth and it was not straight. the temperatures seem like 5 degrees higher idle. should i repaste myself or it's ok.

You shouldnt have let him do like this. The things you say are totally unacceptable. You should definitly clean and repaste if you are confident that you can tear it apart and construct again.

Why did you let him finish his job like this on the first hand?

I would of stopped him and took his badge number down to report.

I'd be tempted to punch him in the groin also, but I would refrain from doing that.

I guess I was to polite (stupid) to interfere in his "profession". I'm going to buy a good paste and when I get back to europe I'm going to repaste. I'm not going to game just to be shure. I have my m14x since last june. He just put some paste stickers he had but he put them sideways. And he didn't brake the screws but completely grinded the ( + ) in between and in the end he had some more screws out (apparantly the pc doesn't need them :p ) I'm just glad it's working

I want some good one. suggestions would be good. I did a paste job just once myself with a new pc for my friend and used the stock paste that came with a i7 930.

I read many people recommend PK-1. I used IC7, its harder to apply (very thick), but heating it up in warm water before applying makes it naturally softer. It is safe to apply because it is non conductive. My temps are awesome, CPU Max 83c and GPU 69c. Before (on Dell paste) CPU Max 99c and Gpu 78c.

Re pasting even if dell does their best is still a great idea.

By using Arctic Silver 5 on my cpu and gpu I got the cpu temp down 3-4C and the gpu temp down 4-5C (both of these #'s are under load full stress) vs stock dell paste. May not be a huge difference but I guarantee if you re paste dells stock paste job with arctic silver 5 you will see at the very minimum a 2C decrease I can pretty much guarantee that with confidence(probably even more tho) and every little bit helps. That little extra thermal headroom lets turbo max out that much longer or maybe even indefinitely.

Wow 15 and 9 degree drop. Dell really did a terrible job pasting your stuff up. Guess you were just unlucky there but good thing you got it all worked out. My drops were much less 4C + 5C but my initial temps weren't as bad but this was on an m15x not m14x.

They have horrible "techs." Especially at the depot. I sent in my laptop twice for them to fix my mic problem(the built in mic). Twice it was returned to me without it being fixed. For whatever reason the first time they didn't even do anything to it.

The second time, they replaced the motherboard, took my hard drive out and shipped it back to me with my hard drive taken out on the side. They put in an empty hard drive...I don't know why. Basically they assumed that I would know I"m suppose to take out the HD they put in and put my original HD in myself and ship the other one back to Dell.

Last week, I had them send a tech to my house this time...THIS time they sent him the right parts to replace the screen. The funny thing is,the tech that was fixing my laptop at my house also noticed that the depot tech cracked the palm-rest. So he came back again the next day with brand new parts to replace it with. I've had my laptop since last year of April and finally everything is actually working right for once.

PS...about the second time I shipped my laptop to the depot; it was also returned back to me with a bunch of deep scratches on the bottom cover. I had to ask them to send me a new one...at least they did that, well it wasn't so simple because the first rep I was complaining the issue to was accusing me of lying and saying that I was the one who damaged my own laptop. Wanna know how careful they are with your laptops:

he dented mine to everywhere he tried to get the panels off :( Mad because before I looked at it like a baby not to have a single scratch, to put it in clean places so it wouldn't get dusty,...

    Yeah it sucks.

@flybass, just call them and ask them to send you a bottom cover. The only thing they'll do is ask for a picture to email them and they should send you a new one.
