Well, the options are these:
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0
Intel® Advanced-N WiFi Link 6250 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO Technology with WiMax and
Bluetooth 4.0 [Add $50.00 or $2.00/month1]
Which are the differences? it worth the 50 upgrade to MIMO?
THANKS DUDES!
-
6250 uses 2 Antenna's and has Wimax
-
Both have two antennas, the 6250 is Dual band (and has WiMax), so you can use it with a 5GHz wireless N network.
-
what he said lol, I got the dual band and antennas mixed, woops
-
So will the 2230 work fine for general use? There's no major defects in the 2230 such as poor range etc?
-
in hotels/airports/public places the 6250 will be better, for home use the 2230 should be fine
-
Thanks for that. The 2230 it is then.

5ghz signal is wider bandwith but cannot penetrate as far. 2.4ghz is narrower bandwidth but can penetrate further.
I doubt public wifi has tons of 5ghz repeaters everywhere. Most likely, they are using 2.4ghz cuz it's cheaper and can go further can 5ghz, so they don't need as many repeaters. Plus, internet speed each user gets will never saturate 2.4ghz bandwith.
5ghz is actually better for home use unless you live in a McMansion and will get faster file transfer speeds over your internal network. You will not see any difference surfing the web.
If you have a home network, ie, transfer from laptop to laptop/desktop; get the 6250. If you don't transfer files wirelessly between machines, get the 2230.
To take advantage of 5ghz, the other machines need 5ghz or ethernet. -

For regular use, the 2230 is ok. You will have no problems with it.
Difference between wireless 2230 and 6250??
