I may have missed this, so I'll apologize in advance.

Is there any technical information about the screen? (The 1600x900.) Like nits, contrast ratio, etc.

. The HD+ panel (SEC544B) has a maximum brightness of 253 cd/m² and on average a still passable 218.6 cd/m². This is indeed clearly lower than on the 14-incher, yet it is enough for using the laptop indoors.
Whilst the illumination of only 71.7% doesn't exactly shine, obviously more value was placed on the respective image contrast, which with a low black value of 0.38 cd/m² reaches a very good 571:1. Images made a very good impression subjectively.

    sec544B... good contrast low brightness.

Thank you! I chatted with a sales person and this is what they told me about the contrast ratio: (I swear, it's the real deal.)

    Bahaha. :D

I don't have any numbers, but I'm using my m14x with a 1600x900 screen right now and I think it looks great. TrackMania Nations looked crisp and colorful. I don't do any fancy graphic design or photo stuff, so I might not be the most stringent judge.

Just got my M14x today and the screen is actually pretty good. I am very picky about my screens. It goes brighter than mainstream laptops and the side viewing angles are pretty acceptable. Vertical viewing angles are decent.

The screen is fine on uk M14x, nothing bad but not really exciting. So there is nothing to worry about.
My concern is the battery issue. Wish I could get a free battery as spare and get a fix :D

Blah, I wish i had been on this forum sooner. I orderd an m14x on the 14th and I'm taking it to college with me. I'm majoring in animation so I wanted a computer that would be good for any 3-d animation I was doing, color work, and maybe some gaming on the side.

It was a long shot but I tried calling them to cancel it but I couldn't. Did you return the m14x that you ordered for a refund?

Edit: Sorry if this post is a massive necro but I searched up "M14x gamut" from reading through another thread on notebookreview.

I know this is an old post, but I was just about committed to buying an M14x when I got wind of this Gamut problem on the screens.

You know-- its ok if they want to give a low gamut screen as an option, but they should develop a better screen as an option as well.

I am not sure this is a killer for me or not. I use an external monitor quite a bit anyway -- the laptop screen would just be for traveling. But still... one of the things I really want is the ability to brag on my laptop.

This removes bragging from my options.

I'm thinking of an xps 15 now.

I wish I could find some source for other 14.1" screens that could fit and that would have better specs. I'd replace the OEM myself.

Are screens not standardized? If you had another 14.1" screen, could you use that, assuming their dimensions matched?

I'm not sure. I am not an expert. But I think it is entirely possible that thickness or connections or power requirements might be different between screens.

In any case, I don't really know where to go for a better screen.
