This seemed to get something done about the fan and battery issues; perhaps we can see how many people have problems with their keyboards.
Does the right side of your spacebar sit slightly higher than the left? It is easier to notice in the dark with the keyboard backlight on (more light shows through the right than the left). Edit: even if you dont think this is a big deal, please vote yes. I'm asking whether or not the problem exists, not if it bothers you.
Do any of your keys squeak? Known culprits are the left shift button, the space bar, or the backspace key. Try pressing in different locations on the key.
Perhaps if enough people have the issue, Dell will do something about it.

My uk spec keyboard seems perfect
Only problem is without starting up command center, only right half of keyboard backlit are activated. i.e. left half, grill and wifi+caps indicators are dark. -
yep uk, spacebar lower on left. Not sure whether its enough to get someone out or not. Have had some people moaning about squeaks, whole keyboard uneven. Lesser of the evils...........................
-
Yeah, I don't actually have mine yet, so I may change my tune once I get it, but the keyboard complaints seem a little nit-picky to me. I mean, granted, it's an expensive machine, and you are paying for quality, but every laptop keyboard has it's issues. At least most that I've seen.
Then again I've never owned an AW, so maybe I should just shut up.... -
my spacebar is a tiiiny bit raised more on the right side than the left, but i never would have noticed if it wasn't brought up in the other space bar thread, so i voted no...it's really barely noticeable unless i'm looking at the comp w/ the leds on and at a weird angle

besides the uneven spacebar and backspace squeak, there's slight warping in the middle part of the keyboard and my delete button is scratchy.. Anyone has this issue as well?
-
It's something slight, and nothing I will rage about, but the spacebar issue is a flaw, and I would like it "fixed." however, I love the laptop and it in no way diminishes how much I like it.

Yep, my space bar is slightly...very slightly higher on the right side. It's very insignificant, and I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't brought up...thanks, now it'll probably start bothering me...

I don't know the meaning of the word squeak but when I type fast on my keyboard, but also correctly hitting the keys when I type I get different reaction times letters in the word + even sometimes skips letters that I'm a 150% positive I hit... so far I've noticed it when I type "just" fast ends up as either 'juts' or sometimes even 'jut' it says 'juts' ignoring my push of that S. I also have this problem with "you" I type in 'you' first and then hit space bar but it ends up "yo u"... anyone else having these problems? it's really annoying for me
the thing with the juts happens all the time like 99% of the times or something. annoying as hell! :[ -
My spacebar squeaks.
-
also happening when I try to type "empires"... always end up 'emipres'... does noone else have these problems with their keyboards? is my keyboard faulty or what is wrong with my keyboard? -
My spacebar is raised on the right hand side by half a mm at most. Apparently, my Compaq laptop exhibits the same issue, which leads me to believe this "flaw" may be within design tolerances since the keys are inherently plastic, which will allow flex to some extent.
I'm due for a replacement though. My m14x came with a few dings and dents at the back which took off some of the black powder coating, which says alot since bare metal is exposed.

^ Those dings have nothing to do with the keyboard

Meaning something else wrong with the keybaord...

lol..but dang, they were rough with that thing :-S their quality check is full of holes.
-
My spacebar squeeks! And it's annoying the hell out of me lol
-
Edit: Takeabyte, yea they sure were rough! But customer service was really quick and nice though. -
The left side of my keyboard is leaving marks on my screen. I am able to wipe these off every time, but I've checked and it happens every time I close the lid, and there is no other pressure from any side on the laptop.
Wondering if I should return the laptop - I ordered 2, the other one doesn't have this issue. -
My keyboard is pretty much like a pyramid the J and K are the top of the Pyramid everything else tapers lower. I have another issue, the panel below the keyboard on the right side has scratched/marked my screen. it looks like it came from under the right ctrl button. What do you guys think I should do because I havent even had this laptop for 3 weeks yet. I tried to wipe it off for an hour lol and it is only visible if the screen is white or turned off, and its about half a cm long.

Unlevel Space Bar and Sqeeks, other than that its fine and I can put up with this.
-
On my second keyboard, and now the backspace button squeaks. And the spacebar still isn't level. Bloody hell.
-
My M15x has this same problem. I'll see if the M14x does when I pick it up from FedEx in about half an hour.

Had a dell engineer out to look at my dodgy spacebar, hadnt initially bothered me as looked very slight.
Not been gaming much on it until this week and found that with when fps gaming with the keyboard......... I can only hit space correctly 50% of the time.
have quite small hands for a chap, so using the right hand side of the keyboard with WASD is not an option.
Replaced the keyboard and the space is still lopsided. I'm waiting for dell to suggest I get "find a thumb donor"
Engineer coming back today with another keyboard and surround.....................checked it with a flat edge, the three keys to the right are a good 3mm higher.
Might not sound like much but a real pain in the backside -
the only thing ive noticed so far is that my fan wobbles when it starts up and makes a sound -
Engineer had second go at straightening spacebar....... Better but still not right. Wondering what next stage is......anyone else been there?
-
In my M14x, "Backspace", left "Shift" and "Spacebar" keys squeak (very slightly) and also "Spacebar" key isn't level (very slightly). I chose the third option although these issues aren't so important in my opinion and I can tolerate them.
-
my first keyboard was super low on the left side. my replacement is slightly tilted down on the left side as well. TBH, it looks like the right side of the keyboard isnt as held down as the left side (little notches under the spacebar) because of the ribbon cables that attach it.
-
I think this sums it up:
The keyboard is pretty much better than both a MacBook Pro and a ThinkPad, in my opinion, and I think most people would agree. Although, it does commonly squeak and is shifted onto the left side, when you type it isn't noticable and the squeaks are only occasional, so in the end, they're just minor glitches. Not a big deal, unless your'e really nitpicky.
Does your keyboard have issues?
