Hey guys, I'm about to put in a purchase for the Alienware M14x, but the only question that is bothering me to place the order is the extended warranty. I currently do own a M15x and I've had quite a few problems with it already. Note that I only have a the basic 1 year in home - diagnosis that comes standard with all Alienware machines. Some of the problems i've encountered during the time i've owned it are the following:

    1) Nvidia Geforce GTX260M died twice due to overheating

    2) Motherboard replaced because the Alienware technical support thought it wasn't the GPU.

My Question: What warranty should I get for my M14x?

Note: I later extended my warranty on my M15x during its first year and the prices are quite drastic. PM me if you want the prices, but they were based from June 2010.

Contact dell after receipt of m14x and buy 3 years extra warranty from them. So that is 4 years in total. RRP for the service in uk is £179, they could offer you a discount to convince you paying the bill :D

What warranty should I get for my new M14x considering the problems I got in my M15x. 2-3 years basic or advanced? Note I am a very cautious person so the advanced might not be required.

Just choose cheapest option when buying the laptop.

After receipt the machine phone or email dell for extend warranty. It is also next day including Saturday and the information will pop on the warranty status page after you are billed.

If you act 'hmmm... I am really not sure if I need this warranty, its too pricey' chances are likely they may offer you some discount! :D

But wouldn't it cost more considering Ive done that on my M15x and I know what kind of prices they give you? I think its much cheaper just to get the warranty in the first place rather than after you get the laptop.

I have no idea about the case in your country. In the UK its definitely better off to buy the warranty after purchase.

In the building process, it shows
4Yr Next Day Hardware Support [add £510.00 or £25/month1]

Whereas 3Yrs extra is only £179. That is a saving of over US$500 for exactly same level of service! Accident cover is not included

Yeah the price for basic for 3 and 4 years are exactly the same. +294.00. Im from Canada. The price it costed to extend my warranty for one year on my M15x costed me $269.00 CDN just for basic without accidental. So you can see that the price is nearly identical lol.

Yea I just checked Canada site and seems their pricing strategies are a bit different from Brits

My invoice for the extend warranty says
682-20119 Add 3 Years Next Business Day OnSite Support ? XPS, Adamo & Alienware Qty 1 Price 153.18

The price is pre tax (VAT, which is 20% in UK) in Pounds sterling. Probably you could email them for a quote?

I usually just forgo it or get it from another vendor. Warranties at roughly 30% cost of a product for an extra a product just are not worth it for me. Especially since I only spent 1150 on mine. Now if you are getting full specs at around 2000$ (or equiv) than maybe I would get one. However, with most of my computers its about 50/50 half my computers break in warranty, the other half out of warrenty. I believe if it is going to break it will do so in the first year.

im in canada too and went with the 4 year since it was the same price as the 3 year. i usually would have only gotten the 2 year but only $95 for 2 extra years is quite the bargain. The longer warranty you have the better chance you have of getting a free replacement down the road as well.

4 years is way too much for a warranty imo. By that time, your laptop won't be able to play any new games.

    I'd say 3 years tops :)

Edit: Unless you're in Canada and if you buy 3 years they give you 4 free ;)

If you have the cash then go for it. I will get maxed warranty for sure. Peace of mind with hinge and over heating issue, and I can abuse the alienfx LED running 24/7! :D
