Ack hate to make so many threads but am still new with this laptop.

I've noticed that the fan on my m14x seems to come on too frequently. Whether its opening Internet explorer or shutting down the computer. The fan comes on and stays on for a while.

My friend has a m14x as well so one day I compared his vs mine. Simple things like opening Internet explorer caused the fan on mine to come on. My friends m14x stayed quiet doing the same thing.

We both shut down our laptops and mine fan once again started to go crazy. My friends laptop stayed quiet as usual.

Wondering if perhaps my laptop could be defective. Weird thing is we both got thE laptops at the same time.

    Thx in advance once again.

Have you updated your bios yet? If you go to the Dell support page for the m14x, try updating to Bios A05. Yours may have come with an older version

Yes, I have updated to the latest A05 bios, but the fan still comes on way too frequently.

Whether I'm just browsing the internet or shutting down the laptop, the fan will kick in. Granted the sound is not loud. But it's just a bit strange that the fan comes on so easily.

As mentioned, my friends m14x's fan rarely comes on.

I sat next to his laptop with mine and we both did the same things. Browse the same websites, turned off the laptops and every single time, my laptop's fan would come on.

But my friends laptop stayed dead silent.

What you should do is get one of those coolers. Not the laptop coolers I mean an actual cooler like you put ice and drinks in. Fill it with ice and then put your laptop in there while using it. That should keep your temps down.

Alternatively, I find playing from my walk-in freezer stops the fan as well. So there's always that option.

What power plan are you using? Mine kicks frequently only in "high performance"

I have this issue even now.

A03 had my fan quiet when doing browsing, like a blowdryer when gaming.
A05 has my fan noticeable when browsing, just a tad louder when gaming.

So if you're gaming more, then the A05 is better for quietness, and A03 is quieter when not gaming.

    At least, for me.
