Got my m14x yesterday and i turned it on to do the windows setup, first thing it said was something like the alienrespawn wouldnt load then it reset and took me to the windows setup. Kinda wierd.
Next ive had an error where Windows Explorer has stop working when trying to right click things and it asks me to restart the program.
And finally while playing World of Warcraft on it earlier today I am getting random hiccups where the game freezes for 2 secs then I am good, and I am pretty sure its a graphics issue like a framerate drop (havent had that on my desktop in 2 years)
-
that doesn't sound good! can you create the recovery media? if so, i'd recommend you do a factory reinstall..
-
how do i create it?
-
i've never actually done it myself but it's something like alien respawn (which worries me since that was your error!). I've heard it will take a couple of dvd's to create it.
-
also whenever i try and shut down it gives me the popup that a program is still running and gives me the option to force shut down or cancel
-
If you're getting these issues right out of the box maybe try calling up dell and seeing if you can get a new machine. I don't think it's acceptable to have issues on the first boot. It's probably a bad sign for the future.
-
this one i get alll the time...had it on my desktop as well, for me at least it is just a Win7 "feature" i've learned to live with, since it will automatically shut down anyway
-
I've never not had that happen on Windows 7 in general, Steam always seems to hold things up for some reason.
I'd recommend a "fresh" install using the DVDs they send you with the system. The Windows 7 recovery DVD comes with the M14x, so no need to create anything, and the drivers/applications are stored on a separate DVD. Any additional info you may need during the process is stored on the recovery partition on the hard drive, also. -
Here is how: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/576732-how-preserve-alienrespawn-stock-drive-aftermarket-drive-alienrespawn-q.html
Does it response when you wait or is it just sit there not responding and show you the "Program not responding and need to close" thingy? -
Have you done windows update? If Not I recommend you to do it and yes its going to take long time.
Then try again I was in the same shoes at the begging and now my machine is running with no issues.
And since i am so happy no to have issues i added a program celled RolleBack and i feel secure with it -
It takes 5 GB i did it on an USB Key
-
dont use IE use firefox, IE is sh*t and always has been ive never had IE work properly on any windows comp.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
ie9 is quite good, as was ie8, or ie 6 when it was launched.
Since I tie my things with chrome, I dont use ie 9 that often, but its quite speedy (faster than firefox 3.5 and 4) and lightweight (which firefox aint)
but nevertheless people use firefox for their extension, thus lightweight is not something that is tied to it
to the op, follow the respawn link and be done with it, if that dont fix your issues, call dell, and ask someone to be sent in, dont forget to update your windows, and your nvidia drivers -
was not talking about internet explorer, was talking about windows explorer, i guess its something like all ur folders and drives mapped out in the "My Computer"
-
i'm almost sure he actually was talking about internet explorer...windows explorer isn't comparable to firefox
-
very confusing to me too lol really dont understand what he is talking about
-
To be safer, use the 8GB Flash Drive, or use a pair of blank DVD especially DVD-R, for me I use DVD, because it is irreversible, so you dont have to worry that the file is missing or other thing USB can do to delete the files.
-
Another good thing I like about Chrome is that it's use the cloud service that is tied to your nominated Gmail account, to save stuff like Bookmarks, Chrome configuration preference from Chrome browser. That is good because sometime before I getting M14x, I afraid that I dont know how to move all those bookmark from my Desktop's Chrome to M14x.
With that cloud service u can sync your bookmark to your nominated Gmail account and resync it back on your new computer, easy as it ABC
^^

I am the OP and was not referring to a web browser. Windows Explorer is the program that Windows uses to map out ur drive into folders etc. (i think thats the general idea). That is what was being forced to close. Not my web browser.

Hi there, I am not pro in terms of AW, but he did talk about Windows Explorer instead of internet explorer. It is call the file extension error. I used to have it on my laptop, when ever I clicked on a folder containing .flv files, the window explorer stop responding.
Did you happen to install any new programs and system restore your comp?
If so, uninstall the program and reinstall the latest version. Hope this helps.
Few issues right out of box....
