Hey guys, I have a quick question about the M14x. I was going to get a box stock in hopes of being able to upgrade all the components like cpu, video card, ect. So my question is can this be done arw they made to be upgradeable?

yes they are pretty upgradeable, but usually its cheaper to get the core components you want, and install additional RAM or an SSD after-market. As to upgradeability of the m14x, the only thing you really can't upgrade is the video card as it is soldered to the motherboard. Other than that you can modify whatever you want within reason.

Agreed with bigtonyman, you can purchase the memory later on or an SSD, unfortunately the video card is soldered into the motherboard so you won't be able to upgrade it unless you change the whole motherboard.

Thanks very, much so I'll spring for the vcard and the i7 cpu and buy the rest later

might wanna spring for the 900p screen as well. I heard it looks much much better than the stock one. Plus if you get it from dell its covered under warranty if something happens. Just a thought

Yeah those are definitely 2 things that you gotta take into consideration when you plan to get it. The 900p screen is definitely better than the regular 720p one. And I just helped a customer with an accidental damage issue. That warranty is definitely worth it (not to mention names haha). If you plan to buy soon you can send us an e-mail to [email protected] and we will help you with pricing info and best upgrades. -
is this a good computer with setup?
Processor: Intel Core 2nd Generation i7-2670QM Processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.1GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
Alienware M14x
500GB SATA II Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
6 GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz
8X DVD +/- RW Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 1.5 GB graphics with Optimus -
What's the price they're giving you?
Any way you can spring up for a GT 650? -
$1000 buck
-
What screen does it come with?
-
14.0 inch High Definition WLED
-
with it being a 2bd gen i7 could i put a 3rd gen 17 and work?
-
More than likely no.
Only the new chipset (QM77 iirc) supports both SB/IB. -
I would advise maybe saving up a little and getting the M14X new with the IB processors and GT 650m. You may send something like $100-$200 more I think.

When I get home im going to order a new one, with this setup would I be able to play Crisys close to max?

I doubt you could get Crysis to max, but you should be able to get very near it.
I'd say you got a good looking system right there. Go for it. -
Awesome, I'll pull the trigger when i get home.
