Does anyone else have some significant flex on the left side of your laptop's keyboard/palmrest? You have to put down quite a bit of pressure, but nothing more than if you were to hold it by the left and move it somewhere (that's how I discovered it).
Mine "clicks" when I press it on the palmrest on the far left. Wondering if I should return/exchange...deal with it...or what. Maybe I'm just not used to the "quality" of a Dell/Alienware coming from the insanely perfect Apple MacBook Pro line.![]()
-
i just checked mine after you said that, and mine does not. So idk whats up.
-
Damn. Doesn't affect typing or anything so maybe I will have to deal with it. :-/
Only problem is I get it every time I pick the laptop up (I typically grab the left side when I do just quick moves)...argh. -
Are you even going to put hard pressure or press it down that hard to use it normally? Stop being OCD. lol
-
^^
He said that he moves it by holding that side. I do the same thing with my laptop. To hold an entire laptop up with one hand (especially one weighing over 6lbs) you have to squeeze with a fair amount of force. Otherwise it would just tip over. -
Yeah I think I am going to return it. They usually offer you some money to try to get you to "accept" the defect...if they will drop $200 I'm in. Otherwise I have no problem waiting for another one. It's unacceptable with a $1200 laptop. Not to mention the "click" occurs even when the lid is closed and you're carrying it on the left side. The right side is solid.

Quick update: called this AM and they're sending out a replacement...7-10 business days. Once I receive it, I just have to send back the old one. Pretty cool. They didn't even offer any discounts, etc.
-
I noticed my unit does have a little flex on the left side, i can even separate the red part of the case with my fingernail. No click noise though. The right side is solid though. Should the left side be solid as well? This is already my second unit, my first wouldnt power on unless being plugged in, I wonder if they will send me another unit for this
-
mine flex on the right hand palm rest.. i can also push up and down the border of the slot load dvd drive.. i think its' casue of the weakspot created by the long opening of the dvd drive.. casue the left i don't see any flex..
i notce that flex and i started practicing picking up the notebook from the front and the rear.. no a big deal -
Interesting. Mine is solid on the right. No flex at all. On the left is a different story. The flex and the fact that I can push the red part out with my finger nail bothers me . Wonder if I can get a replacement for it.
-
yeah i can push part out with my finger too on the right.. but i'm not sure if getting a replacement for those is ok.. i mean unless you're ready to get a replacement on and on and on.. there might be different issue on the new unit..
-
I called tech support and they offered on site repair but not replacement. should I take it or fight for a new one ?
-
I had this on both of mine (I had it replaced for other reasons though).
So I assume it is a design flaw. For me it is only noticable if I want to show it, or ifa I lift the computer holding it on the palmrest. -
i got some flex on my left palm rest.. So does the display at the store.. It's just business as usual alienware quality.. To be honest alienware quality isnt that great.. the plastic feels cheap.. notihng compared to macbookpros!
-
I've noticed this too. The keyboard flexes with hard pressure on the left side. But I have some flex around the touchpad right area as well. Not er perfectly designed laptop. The only laptops I've owned that had no such faults were MacBook (Pro and Air).
-
The reason I choosed m14x because it is cheaper and a little bit more powerful than macbook. Otherwise I will buy a macbook.
-
So many complaints but try getting this level of build quality from and HP or MSI or even Asus. I think the machine is more than solid. It feels way more solid than my girls Sony Vaio, I will say that much.
-
my m14x is flexing there too. already thought of calling support. think ill do so now. despite that everything is fine, i dont wanna risk getting a "heating" machine
-
Mine clicks only if I press on the seam. Not that I care, never noticed till now.
-
Mine cost 1900$ with tax and actually indents when i put force on it, and my spacebar is uneven with a squeaky shift key, but i deal with it :/ Just saying cause you asked if anyone had similar problems
-
Dude, that was your 666th post :0.
-
Now that you mention it, there is some flex indeed on the left. And I just pushed it in a bit harder, and now it clicks.
Should I call them up? Or not bother? -
Theres plastic clips on the side that hold the plamrest to the frame. That's why it clicks. You are actually popping the clips in and out of the frame from the palmrest by pushing on it. It was designed that way just so you all know. You can see them if you've ever taken the thing apart as I have many times.
Flex on the left side?
