When I first got my M14X, the temps were around 75-80c for all games. I've had my laptop now for 6 months. The reason it wasn't in the 60's when I first got it like it is now was due to the rock-hard crap paste / pasting job.

    What do I have open?
    1) Diablo 3 on High Setting
    2) Music production and editing software open (heavy duty software)
    3) Chrome 10 tabs
    4) FF 7 tabs
    5) Few apps open

And I'm getting 63c max (sometimes it jumps to 65c but not often). The fan seems to be on the lightest setting - I can't even hear it. When I alt tab it goes down to 57c.

Wanted to report to you guys the massive difference when you use QUALITY thermal paste and do routine cleaning. I was getting an absurd 90-95c before.

I got a Dell technician to do the pasting/cleaning for me since I felt uncomfortable pasting it myself. You can purchase your own high-quality thermal paste and hand it to the technician if you want - mine was incredibly nice and I posted my experience with him here:

Edit: Once I get all my games reinstalled in the next couple days I will post the results of BF3/Civ5/CoH/TF2/SC2/C&C3.

lol max 63 C on high load would be better than a repasted M14x R2....in the first sentence you say 75-80 C in games before repaste. Then in another sentence you say absurd 90-95 C before repaste. Id say 90-95 C before proper repaste sounds right but 63 C after just sounds.... uhm ye strange. In another forum is a repaste test for the M14x R1 where even the liquid metal paste couldnt drop the workload temps below 75 C.

yeah, those numbers are odd for an r1. i hit 98-99c while rendering and other tasks, and mid-90s are not uncommon i hear. i always expected a repaste to drop at most 10c off the max temps, which would still be helpful in the r1. this has to be one of the dumbest decisions Alienware keeps repeating - they take a "hi-end" laptop (known to run very hot in the case of the m14x r1) and then cripple it with cheap paste and sloppy app. that's beyond shortsighted to me, and it does damage to the brand rep.

You're taking my entire post out of context.

    I said:
    1. When I first bought my M14X, temps were at 75-80c out of the box (BF 3/Civ V surpassing 80c).
    2. Over the next few months, temperatures increased to 90-95c.
    3. After the repaste/cleaning, temperatures are now 63c D3.

In "another forum" that guy could of been playing a different, more power hungry game. This is why I specifically said "D3" in my title and not "All Games".

I used D3 as an example. It'll likely increase if I play more demanding games such as BF3 or Civ 5. I need to reinstall both.

Besides a repaste job, I also had the entire system cleaned and my fans replaced as indicated in my "Alienware Support - Post Your Experience" thread that I linked in my original post.

    @alienowl:
    I used
Newegg.com - Tuniq TX-4 Extreme Performance and Exceptional Reliability Thermal Compound
