    I'm just curious, with the GT 650m card on the M14x r2 being a mid-range card, how long will it be before it'll be unable to play the latest games? It's one of the things I'm worried about when considering the M14x.

    It handles BF3 on High which is one of the toughest games out there to play right now. So It should be fine for most games for at least a year or two.

    It really just depends on what settings you want to play games at I guess. I'm sure in a few years games will be only playable on medium but it will still play them.

    Bear in mind that probably in late 2013 - early 2014 the next console generation is going to get underway. At that point we should see a jump in the demand most PC titles require as well, since most games coming out these days are console ports (with some notable exceptions like Diablo 3, MMOs like The Secret World, etc.)

    When that leap occurs I expect that all systems (including ours) will start to age pretty quickly.

    That's a really good point. That'll probably be around the time I move into an apartment (instead of a dorm) and build a desktop so I guess I don't have to worry :p

    I'm confident the GPU is good enough for up to 3 years of gaming, with settings obviously lowered by year 2/3. Think of it this way:
    2012 = High-Ultra
    2013 = Medium-High
    2014 = Low-Medium

    The loss of 1 setting per year (at least that's how I look at it).

    Hais. 2012 is almost over though. I hope it'll at least last till 2015 or 2016... I really like the M14x which is why I decided on it rather than one with a better graphics card at the same price.

    I'm optimistic about this as well, I think that we will decrease around one setting level per year. :p :cool:

    my old "Beast" with 8700m GT's is still kicking and that is from the good old 2007.

    I can safely say that 650 will last at least 4 years if you are willing to edit specific game settings, OC, etc... Not on "High", but it will run

    That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't really care much about graphics anymore now that they have gotten so good. Some games it is really hard to even tell the difference between low and ultra (BF3 comes to mind, also Diablo 3). Many times you have to compare screenshots to even tell. I would gladly play on low in 3 years and still have an extremely portable system compared to my m18x.
