Hi guys. I've purchased an m14x r2 with 2GB GT650M and a 900p screen upgrade. I was wondering, is it best to play at 720p or 900p? Will there be a significant difference in fps? When playing crysis 2 maximum edition, I noticed that I could play either on extreme settings at 900p, or ultra settings at 720p where the game would be playable.

You want to play at 900p whenever possible. If you play at a lower resolution than your native one you're going to have pixel scaling, which inevitably is going to look worse.

If you get a choice between playing 900p on high and 720p on ultra... take the 900p on high.

There will be an FPS difference between the two resolutions on identical settings, but how much that difference is will vary by game.

It's always better the 900p for gaming. :)

I'd rather drop some game settings than reduce resolution or disable anti-aliasing.

But different people like different things. It's all a matter of which you think looks worse. Personally, reducing resolution or AA is worse for me, so do what suits you best.

I agree with half of that. But like you said it's all personal preference. I always game at native res and usually without AA and crank up the detail and such. If my card runs it good then I add some AA.

Maybe i need to experiment some more but this is what I've always done for a loooong time so I should probably test out using AA more.

Only reason I would run a lower res is if the game won't run on min settings.

Native resolution would be my first choice instead of attempting to play the game at a lower resolution.

native rez and fluid FPS are the only constrains for me when gaming. i adjust everything else to make those 2 work.

in any case the higher the rez the more strain on your Gfx card. if the card can hang or you dont mind turning stuff down to get playable FPS the go for the bigger rez.

i actually got the lower rez screen for more range in games i could run. but they sent the bigger rez screen for a replacement as i was having issues with my origonal one. dont know how i feel yet. im happy as its technically a upgrade and does make browsing nicer. the quality seems better in the areas of brightness, color range & saturation, but i cant help but notice a hint of the pixel matrix griding effect at certain brightness levels. i did notice this on my M11x too but i got used to it pretty fast.

OT, but when they sent you the screen replacement what exactly did they send out?

my original 1366x768 LCD was flickering. they sent a tech to do on site repair. the LCD they gave him to do the repair with happened to be the 1600x900 display. it comes as one whole assembly. the glossy pannel, rubberized back with the Alien head and everything inbetween. including the hinges, WiFi antenne, etc.

Thanks. Didn't mean to sound negative in the other thread. Just don't see why you'd keep something that was messed up when received.
