I have a gap as well, not as big as yours though. -
on the camera ..the gap ..wouldnt show up...anyways i tried clicking....if you have a look closely at the photograph...right from where my fingers are on the phone...to half of the camera lens on the iphone....lemme know what you think about it ..thanks Imageshack - gapphoto.jpg
Edit: BTW...i switched my wallapaper and turns out its not a black patch.....but...just that my windows wont go completely on top...cause when change the wallpaper to blue.......the patch turns blue too..
(phew a relief i think)

thanks mate....hope you dont have a gap...or maybe this is thr on all
-
Looking at the picture, the gap seems big enough to call dell...
Do you have a gap at bottom of the lcd as well?? If not, maybe the lcd is not centered properly
-
ok now when i change the wallpaper...the color of the gap also changes...which means....its just that my windows are not resizing properly...cause my desktop wallpaper ....fits till the top ..but when i open my computer it dosent..
any suggestions?? -
Found a solution...thr is a process called TOASTER.EXE that needs to be killed...if you have a gap on the screen...i also read this somewhere on another thread

Tried and it worked:
Here is the way to get rid of the process toaster.exe and you don't need to kill it every time your computer starts:
Open control panel
Double click on the ‘Administrative Tools’
Double click on the ‘Services’
Scroll down and find the ‘SoftThinks Agent Service’, double click on it. In the pop-up window, change the startup type to ‘Disabled’, and then click ‘OK’.
Restart your computer, problem solved .

Surprisingly i just killed it once and it dint pop back again...i think it had something to do with alienware respawn

Mine is xps 15, so have to disable the service.
