As I know, most laptops I have gotten in the past had bloatwares and un-needed programs such as EVE Online and World of Warcraft trial. But... I dunno if this forum knows the list of programs that it's best to keep in (I know drivers are important so it isn't going to be removed, but what about updating them...?) and what program I can remove completely cause so to keep the laptop speed up to par.

BTW, any other recommended programs I may need to install? I know for MSE, CCleaner, etc but... Any recommendations that you want to recommend if it's a free and a good program for the laptop. Thanks for your help.

Good question which I'd like to know the answer to. My M14X currently boots up with about 10 programs in the system tray. I've only added a couple to the ones that were already starting up when I first bought it. I'd like to reduce the number of startup programs to reduce the time it takes for my laptop to boot and become usable. Any recommendations for ones which I can safely disable from starting on boot?

Just reinstall Windows from the discs they give you and install only AlienFX Control Center. It controls the lights. Get an anti-virus, run Windows Update, and everything else is optional.

Cheers. To save the hassle/time with a re-install I can just disable the majority of the programs that start automatically when it boots (i.e. only keep AlienFX control center and anti virus)?

Yes. There may be other programs you might need, such as the Synaptics touchpad driver (depending on if you want the special gestures) but you can definitely just Google it and decide if you should disable or not.

Uninstalling gives you more HDD space too. You can flip through Programs and Features, Google each program, and decide if you should remove it or not.

My m14x came pretty clean. I usually do a clean install but decided not to for the m14x.

    Mine also came clean.

I find everything useful in some way, and nothing slowed down the computer enough for me to notice.

Thanks for the advice. I ran 'msconfig' and there's a whole bunch of stuff starting up. As you advise, I'll google them and see if they are important or not.

Well I was thinking about doing a entire wipe on the drive, wipe the recovery partition for extra space and then reinstall Windows 7 with the disk it gives. But it shouldn't affect battery life and other factors?

There isn't any "bloatware" on the M14x, unless you don't want Steam.

To even remotely consider steam as bloatware is a sin.... It's all about the steam holiday sales :)

I'm not concerning Steam, I just want the laptop to make sure it's stress free like... No bloatware like if there is like other un-needed programs. Also, any recommendations of programs I should try like a cleaner program or security?
