Hey everyone. Im having a weird problem with UEFI and booting from USB.

Was messing with the BCD of a flash drive while following a guide and managed to reset the BCD of my laptop. After a days worth of research and many hours of frustration, I finally gave up and burnt a windows 8 ISO and used that to repair it. Finally back in Windows 8. Now I am trying to test and see why it was that I couldnt boot into the Windows 8 installer USB (or any Ubuntu USB) from UEFI.

To create the Win8 USB, I used diskpart to format the usb to fat32 and activate it and then copied the contents to the drive. For the Ubuntu drive, i used the LiLi installer with the official Ubuntu 12.10 Unity ISO which apparently has support for UEFI/Secure boot. Neither were recognised as bootable USB flash drives. Im wondering if that is simply because of the way I made the drives or if there is something wrong with my UEFI or the motherboard. All the ports work normally within windows.

    Any help?

    James

Go to your BIOS, under Advanced look for USB emulation and make sure it's enabled

And over a year later, after I had given up hope on that and moved on, I actually was trying to do the same thing and ran into my old post (weird how this keeps happening). This fixed my problem perfectly :D What exactly does that option do? Simply enable usb booting?
