I have an alienware m14x obviously and the resolution is 1600x900 and i just picked up an LG E2360V monitor. The monitor supports 1080p, 1920X1080 res. And when i hook it up via VGA the resolution and scaling is fine. However when i hook them up via HDMI the resolution does not fill up the full screen of my monitor. All my drivers are updated and everything so idk why it outputs 1920x1080 full screen to my monitor via VGA but not via HDMI.

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Edit: make sure you extend your desktop, or it won't go into 1080p at all. -
i did that but theres no 1080p options it just says 1920x1080 and i did that.

you have to right click on desktop>>nvidia control panel>> set up multiple displays>>set up extended desktop and put res of external monitor to 1080 if it doesn't do it automatically. or alternatively you can just put the desktop only in external monitor (1080p). i do that all the time

I did that too its on 1080p but now i noticed its not cut actually cut off. Its weird the edges of the screen on the monitor are about an inch or so. But when i move stuff on there and maximize it, its actually bigger than the monitor. Like slices of the window are cut off. It seems that the desktop background does not take up the fulls creen, however when i maximize sumthin on the monitor it actually takes up a tiny bit more than the full screen. This is bazaar i thought HDMI was this fancy new awesome simple technology, yet im doing so much work just to make it project correctly, and meanwhile VGA works like a charm. SMH

but just look there for customize or smth and a screen with highlighted edges will pop-up where you can drag and fit the edges right. it happens to me too when i connect to my sony TV but don't worry it's only for the first time than it will save the settings for every time you connenct to that monitor.
