Hey I saw your list of tools in your signature, and it prompted me to register for an account here!
I just got an m14x ... what do all these tools do??
-
Oh you mean this " Alienware M14x Resources/Drivers/Goodies? Well what in those are just a backup of M14x Essential Drivers and some useful program for the laptop such as temp monitor, you can also find it in the Dell Driver & Download and should you ever do a clean Windows 7 Installation you can use either of the link to install the drivers.
Btw, why dont you just PM me instead of creating a new thread? -

, I was in a hurry at the time I wrote that.
-
You have an m14x right - do you play battlefield 3?
-
I play BF3 and i have a M14X Darb.
My specs are i7 2670 2.2ghz 8gb ram 555m nvidia geforce overclocked to 770/1540/900 runs bf3 on ULTRA and MAX res with AA on off or it might be x2. Not quiet sure, i also have turbo mode disabled in bios.Seems to keep temps a little cooler. the GPU runs fine over-clocked. If you need help just PM me
.
-
mudfl4p you need to help me I just got this m14x like 2 weeks ago, and I can barely play bf3.
I get about 24fps on mid/low settings... and the thing gets insanely hot, and sometimes it locks up. -
Okay mate, have you changed your settings in your nvidia control panel so BF3 runs of your nvidia card not your integrated intel card? add me on steam if you need any more help.

Yeah I did change that setting - but I don't know maybe I just have too many background programs running ... I don't have it overclocked or anything...
-
It's really easy to overclock m8t. Go to google type in MSI AFTERBURNER and it's literally just a little bar you move up. I've got mine on full and that's 770/1540/900 and i'm running games on ultra. DO you have your turbo mode in your bios turned off?
-
I thought MSI afterburner only worked for radeons! I'll check that out then.
I don't know if turbo mode is turned off ... did you overclock the cpu in the bios or with msi afterburner?
What temperatures do you get?
Here's a snapshot of all the crap loaded in my taskbar:
http://screensnapr.com/e/eNHhHT.jpg
and a quick shot of my task manager (116 processes)
http://screensnapr.com/e/qDRhZQ.jpg
this is just when I'm idling ... it shoots up when playing games. Is this maybe too much multitasking to have going on in the BG?

WOOOOOOOAH, why do you have so many google chromes open?! Nope, MSI afterburner works for my nvidia 555m 3gb card fine. I would turn turbo mode off if i was you 2 see how high your temps get gaming. Nope i haven't touched my cpu and i do not plan too, it's not needed the power it has is relatively good. I have the i7 2670QM 2.2ghz with 3.1ghz turbo mode which is disabled.
go into bios and just look for 'turbo mode' it will have disable and enable just simple disable it and see how you go there. I have no idea why you have so many google chromes open, that could be half of your problem! but other then the crap that you have open try getting out of it all. well only use the stuff that you need.
go into start then type on msconfig then whilst you're in that click on the startup tab, i'll show you a snapshot of what mine has on startup

and this is what my MSI afterburner is set up like

What kind of FPS do you get when playing BF3?
I usually close chrome when playing games.
How many processes do you have normally? (look at the bottom of the task manager) -
Processes from ALL USERS is 85 max. I get atleast 50 fps playing bf3 all on ultra. I made a YT video on how to OC your gpu. I'll link you.

There you go mate, would appreciate if you could like comment and subscribe if i helped youI will be uploading many videos of the m14x tips tricks and game reviews.
-
As for the MSI Afterburner, it can be use with any card that support OC, I think card like GS 7800 or lower is not compatible with the OC though. -
. Thanks for that CGSDR
.

I posted a reply and liked the vid.
I have the same m14x as you and mudfl4p CGSDR ... I'm no sure why in th eheckleberry I'm having these issues with it! -
Hmm, i have no idea. Are you sure the nvidia control panel is set to run with your gpu not your intel... :/
-
I just ran PCmark 06 and got this result:

What do you get?

this may bring up the results too:

I just ran 3dMark 6 and this is my result:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor,Alienware M14xR1 score: 5820 3DMarks

Just for s and giggles I am going to ask.
You reccommend disabling Turbo Boost and OC'ing you GPU.
kinda like keeping heat balanced but putting power where it will be more efficiently used?
and 5842 3d marks... that seems low., -
-
Okay, after changing it to run on the GPU i got around 10,ooo something seems better. But then it told me I cheated after i OC'd my video card. lol
Hey CGSDR
