I was opening the hinge on my Alienware when It decided that it didn't want to work anymore. The hinge detached from the monitor and pieces of the hinge exploded across my table. I saw other posts of damage like this but this looks far worse. I have dell CompleteCare but I read somewhere else that they will not cover hinge damage because of the HUGE hinge defect. I need to know whether I should call dell or buy the replacement parts?

    Call the "Alienware" support number.

Bummer on the hinge. looks like your power button bezel area might have been damaged from the pics. Make sure to point that out to the rep if it is.

There are no reported hinge defects on M14x models.

We can send it to our facilities to have it analyzed and determine whether it's covered or not. If you'd like me to help you setup the depot service send me a PM with your service tag and we'll take it from there.

It either broke from a defect, or at worse...accidental damage.

In either event, he paid extra for Complete Care.

What else would be left to determine coverage?

My hinge wobbles. This has me nervous.

edit: after a quick search it seems fairly common on the left hinge...same as mine

My hinge was acting like that at first. There are other problems my m14x has too, like how the USB on the left side was completely ripped out when I removed a flash drive, and how my 4gb RAM card stopped working. After looking at it I realized that one of smaller IC's on the card was gone. And since the hinge is busted wide open, tons of dust flew up into the screen. It makes it very hard to read text...

I had this same thing, but I got mine repaired for free under a "one time offer" from Dell.

I found the E-Mail of the CEO of Dell and explained how this is unacceptable. I explained the problem was the same with the M11x, faulty hinges, and they got replacements free, regardless of warranty status. So, a couple days later I get a call from one of the higher ups, offering a free repair of the whole lid, as long as nothing else was broken. Over all, I was very pleased, I saved 450 bucks and I was even out of warranty. I suggest you do this before you do anything else.
