As thread title really. The touchpad light is quite cool, however I'd like to tone the laptop down a bit as I use it at work and would rather that it was a little more discrete. The regular keyboard lights are fine but the touchpad is really too big an area to have lit.

So how can I turn it off or in the very least fade it to a less obvious setting?

Clever, have tried it but it it doesn't let me select black, hence the question.

The only downside to this method is that you'll need to edit every theme or create an alternate version of your existing themes with the touchpad lighting off. But I personally find it to be a much more elegant solution than turning off AlienFX altogether or turning off the touchpad function.

Absolutely fantastic, thank you Souffle, very helpful.

No idea why Dell have programmed the command centre software such that black cannot be selected as a "colour" setting from the palette wheel for the touchpad when you can select it for all other zones.

I'm surprised they haven't issued an update to add black as an option for the touchpad. The lighted touchpad looks great but can be a bit obnoxious depending on the setting.

You may submit this to Ideastorm.com. The Engineering team will review it and probably add it to their next update if you get enough votes.

In my mind it is an absolute oversight that it isn't possible by default given that you can select black (or off) as a colour for all other zones. I know its possible to dim it a little too, but if that was available on a variable slider you could tone it down even more whilst still retaining backlight functionality.
