Not sure how I feel about this one. Dell really screwed me on my original purchase because they couldn't get the repairs done on my original m14 R1. Three repair attempts, well over a month later, and I'm not typing on my new m14x R2. They paid for everything, and I just need to send my old machine back.

    Old:
    i5-2410m
    6GB RAM
    500GB HDD
    1.5GB Nvidia GT555
    900p
    Intel 1000 WiFi
    Win7 Home

NEW: And OMG is it fast...
    Intel i7-3820QM
    16GB RAM
    512GB SSD (Dell provided)
    Blu-Ray ROM
    900p
    Intel 6250 WiFi
    Win7 Ult

So Dell obviously took care of me in the end. The exact system specs out over $3k on Dell's site, over double my original purchase price. It's a bitter sweet ending to what was making me absolutely hate Dell and Alienware. I don't want to provide too many details so I don't pigeon hole Dell, but in the end they made sure I was happy.

    WEI is
    7.7
    7.8
    7.1
    7.1
    7.9

If you guys need to know more specifics on how this configuration runs please let me know and I will do what I can.

sounds ...strange to me. why shall they give you a way more expensive system in the end. normally they just exchange to the same price system. but however congratulations!

I agree. I was shocked myself but I did go through a lot. In home techs, dell repair facility, and phone support. All 3 gave me a LOT of problems but in the end they apologized and told me what they were sending. It goes a long way when a company that big will still do what they can to keep me happy. It shouldn't have got to that point, but luckily it worked out well for me in the end.

I would say very well^^. However i never read or heard about such a compensation. Normally no matter how many stress, repair attempts and replacements someone gets he never gets a system that is waaaay more expensive than the one before from Dell.

Im sure everyone who got compensated is jealous now including me :p. congratz to your MONSTER! ^^

Yeah I was really torn on how to approach this. The last thing I want to do is come of as boastful for what I got. I also didn't want to set false expectations that when your computer breaks, you will get something like this as a replacement every time.

But yes, this machine is absolutely insane; faster than my desktop I custom built last year. I don't know what Dell built something like this for me. I just asked to be taken care of, because of what had happened. I only expected the Ivy bridge version of the i5 with a 900p screen. This was a very pleasant surprise.

I'm fairly busy but I'm sure some people will want to see some benchmarks on this. I run a gadget review website as well so I may include benchmarks as part of my review. I will keep you guys updated!

Their warranty is unmatched. This was the main selling point when purchasing an Alienware for me.

Although you went through several issues, in the end, Dell always comes through. Don't get me started on what other companies would of done :p

    Yeah,

I know; I have the same computer and have the exact WEI as you have posted.

But mine only lasted three (3) days and its being repaired.

It died after a large windows update had completed.

The screen went blank and the keyboard glowed blue.

I spent hours trying to get it to bootup with no luck.

So, Dell has replaced the motherboard, and everything except the RAM.

    What a major disappointment

    Bob.

    Alienware M14 R2 (Manufacture date April 04, 2012)

Could be a bad batch on that date?
