there was a discussion about this a while back I think, and from what I understood they will last over ten years of constantly being on. I doubt you will being using that laptop in 10 years. :p

My m15x purchased march of 2008. The lights started to fail just recently. The power button was the first to go, only certain colors not all. This stuff just doesn't last forever. I just ordered a new M14X. If it goes 4 yrs without a problem I'll be happy.

Oh dont worry, like bigtonyman said it will last very long time, unless you spill liquid on it or smash it due to raging in-game, lol. I guess the keyboard light will be the longest compare to other parts on the laptop.

don't take my word as gold though, I just remember seeing it in a thread one time, so it could easily be wrong. :p

Pretty sure the lights will be the last to break.

On the subject of lights, does dimming actually do anything really? Is it meant for preserving their overall life or battery life? Or just another effect?

I test that, dimming light will save you a couple mins - about 20mins ~ 30mins, but it's depend on if you're use it heavily or not, because most of the time I use to have the light dimmed, I'm not doing any heavy web browsing, just to listen to music with the FX visualization though.
