Quick question, in order to overclock the graphic card, i just have to download MSI afterburner and mess with the graphic, shader and memory numbers right?

    as simple as that?

it seemed stable...didn't have any issues. but I haven't gamed for long periods of time yet.

also, recently, I've lowered the overclock to 700.

I originally overclocked to 740, because that is the clock of the Geforce 550GT.

pretty much as simple as that. just check the box that says 'apply when starting system' so it overclocks automatically.

Mines stable at 773 and 1080.... also cpu i have it overclocked to bios max 102.9 it reads in cpuz. I used 3dmark06 3dmark11, and furmark, it gets hot on furmark but that is expected.

What are the general consensus of the MSI afterburner? I itch for some Ati 5870 overlock on aurora and 555M on my m14x.

I think it is personally just unnecessary bloat ware, I much prefer just using nvidia control panel, as well as the fact you have greater ranges.

Hmm, you meant nvidia system tools? I feel for serious overlocking, BIOS would be the best option!

Speaking of which, AMD's overdrive is pretty slick too.

ya well the system tools go under the control panel, and with the system tools you can over clock just as much as save system resources. I mean I got a 15818 on 3dmark06 with no artifacts so it cant be that bad

If you guys are wondering how to confirm stability of your overclock - I recommend using Furmark. You can get it here:

    http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

It's super intensive. I would say a 15 minute run with no errors/artifacts would be a good indication of a solid OC. Depending on if you are OK with the temps that are shown...

So i am new to overclocking, this is the first computer I have owned that can do it. I have it overclocked, and it seems to be running pretty cool to me, and games are running amazing. Im running at about 60-65C consistently while playing games such as crysis and wow. Can anyone answer if im at a "safe" heat?

You're measuring the temperature with a monitoring program such as HWMonitor, correct? (and not just the case temperature) Because if the GPU only goes up to 60-65C when gaming, that's absolutely amazing. 'Safe' temperatures are all the way up to 90C whereas 'ideal' is below 80C.

Yea I been using MSI's heat measuring chart, and while playing crysis on Enthusiest it never dips higher then 65C, the palm rest only gets slightly warm. Just wanted to make sure that was ok internal temps.

Is the nvidia system tool safe to use? Read the documentation and it doesn't support 555M.. :(
