I was recently at a friends house and had my audio working perfectly (didn't have soundblaster installed still waiting for cd) and shut down the laptop for about a few hours and turned it back on and it was just plain old audio nothing exciting. I think it might be bad driver but now I'm also a little worried it could possibly be the subwoofer

I am huge music junkie and clearly love gaming obviously :p so good audio is EVERYTHING to me

Is this in your computer? Your story is confusing. It could be something with drivers, try checking for updates or any problems people have had with your sound system. It could also be a broken sub or speaker so I hope you have a warranty :)

I have the newest realtek driver and I'm going to install soundblaster x-fi as soon as I get it hopefully that works. If not I'll use AlienRespawn to check and see if that fixes it. Then if worse comes to worse I have a one year warranty and I'll send it back

For me, the sound is like super crisp and it's sound like your set the equaliser to "Treble Booster", also I have lift the laptop up when playing the bass-heavy music and saw that their are no activity (vibration) on the subwoofer at all.

Call Dell, if you're still under warranty, they'll send in a technician to replace it for you for free.

Damn you guys, got me unscrewing my back plate and checking if my sub woofer vibrates at 3am ;) All's clear here. BTW the sub woofer is a small circular speaker located right on the bottom below where the mouse is, just in case you didn't know. Unscrew the back plate and play audio, feel if the sub vibrates or not, sometimes i thought that mine wasn't working, turns out i just got use to the 2.1 high quality sound and forgot what bass-less music sounded like.

If it's not broken, congrats, if it is, no biggy, it's just one module that's easy to replace. I'm sure dell will send out a tech to you to fix since it's still under warranty.

Next time just open your music players equalizer and crank the lower frequencies (20-75hz). The subs bass should start to get deeper and deeper, till it distorts.
