I just bought the ASUS RT-AC66R router and I was wondering if this AC Wi-Fi card by Intel is compatible with my M14x R1. Provantage is already selling it for about $28.00, so I'm getting this if it's compatible. Thanks!

I'm not sure if its compatible, but unless you are running a media server in your house and doing large transfers from PC to laptop then it isn't really necessary. It won't make your internet faster unless you run Gigabit internet.

I just installed this card on an M18XR2 and it works fine with a RT-AC66U, only have win8 drivers to date, I see in another discussion Intel is still working on win7 drivers. Not much faster than the bigfoot card, kind of disappointed, but for 28 bucks not all that bad.

I'm using Windows 8 right now, so it shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, what's the throughput you're getting with this new AC card?

As Kevinmcg says, unless you need to transfer large files over your network it won't be noticeable. Haven't seen any success stories around of those new cards on the R1-R2.

I got the 7260 in my r2 and with the ac-66 router it works very well. I bought it off ebay for double what you paid before looking and finding it cheaper. i do connect at 866 and its been stable so far. I also have the Azurewave BCM4352 broadcom ac card and I think the intel seems to maintain a better signal with the Asus ac router. the broadcom does have windows 7 drivers out. I would guess it wont be long before intel puts out a 7 driver themselves. the broadcom card came off ebay as well, but cost me 3 times what the intel card can be had for. that was a little while ago though and it was the only ac card on the market at the time.

I tried a few testing tools, iperf, LAN Speed Test, NetStress, ReadError and settled with TamoSoft Throughput Test
    Intel 7260/AC @368 to 526.5Mbps avg download throughput 40Mbps
BigFoot @450Mbps avg download throughput 37Mbps
The intel card fluctuates it's connected speed based on useage, the bigfoot is connected @450Mbps 100% of the time.
