The difference between the R2 is huge, but the R3 and m14x are semi-close.

The difference is like 25fps on High on Metro 2033 on the M11x r3, and like 30fps on Max on Metro 2033 on the m14x (not saying thats true, but thats the difference between them)

I had an m11x R2.... and the difference is pretty huge... I felt a lot of games unplayable on the M11x R2... just due to not having the frame-rates I wanted... specifically for Crysis 2.

I also felt like the m11x screen was just really bad. I don't know if they've improved it with the R3 version.... but the viewing angles were pretty lousy and the overall quality just wasn't there.... and the size....

It made playing Starcraft 2 pretty difficult, overall....

If they can fix this battery issue with the M14x with an Bios update... It will be my favorite laptop.

You don't bring a knife to a gunfight.

In other words, you don't game with an 11 inch screen. You certainly can, but it won't be at all satisfying.

The difference between the R3 and the M14x is huge, in R3 you'll only can play in mid for recent games in 1366x768, with the m14x you can play almost new games in high in 1600*900 and only really rare games will not run in high in 720p.
also the proc on m11x r3 is pretty low, the i7 is 1.5ghz and it's a dual core, and 540GT isn't that good for playing, sure those specs for a 11" are incredible, but you can't compare the m11x to the m14x.

Well if you want to pay the same price for a ULV processor to a true Quad Core, I picked the M14x because if I get an M11x R3 the price would be relatively the same. BUT, battery life and portability are the best attributes of the M11x..

i did this. not even comparable. in my R1, i could play NFS hot pursuit, but Darksiders wouldn't even load; never tried Crysis on it. I felt like the R1 got hotter quicker than the M14X as well.

Plus if you're into the aesthetics the M14X looks much nicer than the 11, and there are four LED zones under the keyboard so you can have different lighting. Not sure if the 11 R3 has this... :)

I see you have 8GB Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz, do they came with your lap or you bought them separetly?

And if you bought them separetly what is the benefit of using them?

Also can we just swap lets say 4gb if we have 8 and mix 1 of 4 GB the ones that came from dell and 1 of 4GB Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz?

The RAM was bought separately via Newegg, much cheaper than what Dell offers for their upgrade during config.

Regarding benefits, I don't know if this type of memory is any better than other 1600Mhz; I got them because the price was pretty much the same when compared with other brands, but these have a blue (very nice blue) heatsink on them.

From what I've read, I wouldn't recommend using RAM outside of its kit. What I mean by this is, our 4gb are 2 chips of 2gb, same manufacturer, same model. Same with my Kingstons, they're two 4gb chips, but same manufacturer, same model.

In m11x r3 you can only set one color on the keyboard.

I too upgraded from m11x r1. I love mass effect i was playing it on medium with m11x r1 45 frames roughly now I get that when I put it on ultra high on a 47 inch 1080p tv. (or just over 60 fps on the laptop itself 900p.) So it is a huge difference I picked my m14x up for under 1200 and sold my m11x r1 for 450 so for 750 for me it was a no brainer.

We benchmarked in another thread stock ram gets about 19000 mb/s hyper x gets around 22000 and it is cat 9 vs 11. so pretty big step, no real reason to get the upgrade through dell.

positive reviews all around. how about portability? I presently also use my m11x r1 for work. So. I need to carry it back and forth everyday from my home to work and I walk to work and back. (I know this is subjective). But how does it feel to carry in your backpack everyday? I mean, my m11x r1 without my adapter and an iPad (for work) in my bag. feels like its empty. will I notice the heft of an m14x?

It feels like it is there compared to the m11x which was like nothing. I will say you will notice the m14x compared to m11x. But it will not be a laptop you need a back alignment for or cause any type of stress.

m14x is very portable.... and its no netbook... perfect size and weight and performance. I am very impressed with it. I have two friends with a m15x and an m17x and they are heavy/big.

only issues with the m14x is gaming on battery and Sata 3 (and the fan but thats not terrible)

While not immediately related, but I thought the m14x battery issue, was fixed, I mean, all you need to do was play with the power settings, so that everything is in peak performance, no? Am I wrong?

battery makes most games unplayable im talking about like a difference of 60-17 frames for some games, balanced mode takes my gpu core down to ~250 mhz from 773.

Went from an M11x R2 (sold) to the M14x and the difference is big.

I think ULV processors are way to slow, memory was capped at 800Mhz, 335M to 555M is a big leap, and I love the 4 way lighting zone.

Battery life on my old M11x R2 and my M14x are pretty much the same.

I went from a desktop i7 920 + GTX 260 to the M14X. It was a bit of a step down for me, but I love the portability!

I think the M14X only weighs two pounds more than the M11X. And the iPad 2 weighs 1.3 (iPad 1 weighs 1.5, i think). So, the M14X will weigh about the same as your M11X + iPad. M14X + iPad won't feel much heavier for you in my opinion. I have been taking my M14X to school every day for the past two weeks and have not felt any stress on my shoulders.

If you think about it, 2 extra pounds is nothing. And it's being spread across your shoulders, so it's even less than that (yes, less than nothing).
