I'd really like to see a white case for my laptop. Just the bottom panel and the panel behind the LCD screen. It would look awesome on the black interior.

I've heard of people painting the aluminium casings on the older Alienware's. But can you paint the M14x's Soft touch style case?

Or do you think Dell could release another color like white?

Well for painting, I think it is near impossible, however you can always go on eBay finding a custom chassis instead. For Dell side, I dont think they will do while colour but Silver or grey, there might be a possibility as seen on the M15x and the M17xR2.

I would pay a lot for another color case. I heard Alienware used to let you do that. But stopped after. I would have loved to have a choice in my laptop color.

    A pity

Ejohnson is the Alienware painter here on NBR. If you look through his post history, he posted a guide on how to pain and what you'll need to paint.

He's got an M11X in white that looks stunning.

i have painted quite a few laptops over the past few years and can tell you you can do it, but only after extensiv prep work. the soft touch coating gets disolved by the thinning agents in paint and will shrink and crack all over and wipe right off coating and all, while its still wet. i have actually used acrylic clear coat spray as a thinner to remove the soft-coat on a razer orochi mouse. after the soft coat is gone your still not ready to paint. the surface really needs to be sanded and primed prior to painting or you will get places around edges were the paint is kind of layered and it will look like crap. also if your not willing to fully disassemble the laptop first and were thinking just taping it off good will be ok, then you will be unhappy with the results. also important to have a clean area. if you do it in your garage spray the floor down with a hose first to keep dust from flying around and landing on the surface and if something does, dont try to pick it out wet. let it dry then wet-sand before you clear coat. also be prepared to not be able to use it for a week or two for the clear to harden and give a couple days between base to clear-coat. i think it would be worth it to prctice on a broken laptop first and test your hand before possible jacking up your machine. another option if you are cool will a taking it completely apart is to tear it down and take the housing to a body shop. i have done this myself and a good auto paint tech can do a job that will look factory provided you prep it for him properly. good luck!

Check the last link in my sig.
I did quite a few lids and those are the latest ones.

The M14x would require a little more time but it's an easier job, so yes, it is possible.

I do not know what your sig is....but I saw some AWESOME M11x repaints. Even in white like I want mine to look like. Maybe if I really wanted to get it done I could buy a broken stripped M14x and start with that.
